True story, when I was a kid in the 90s my family took me to Williamsburg (we are west coast). During a tour of one of the houses the guide pointed out the “servants’ entrance” in the kitchen. My grade school self, genuinely confused, said out loud, “they had servants AND slaves?”
@MuneebRasool2 ай бұрын
genuine question, whats the answer?
@asmodiusjones95632 ай бұрын
@@MuneebRasool they had slaves for what servants do today, “house slaves”. The “servants’ entrance” was actually the slave entrance - but at the time, it was considered rude to be so forthcoming about the colonial era, so they called it the servants’ entrance to downplay or just hide the fact that they had slaves. They were too cowardly to admit the truth. Remember this about conservatives. Facts don’t care about MY feelings, but facts bend over backwards for THEIRS.

Keeping a bunch of slaves your whole life and then freeing them once you can no longer personally benefit from them doesn't really seem that great Like, you could have freed them at literally any point prior instead of exploiting them for years Hell, being the President of the US, you could also just have abolished slavery if you actually had a problem with it, instead of supporting the legal institution for the economic benefit. You really only had to talk to a slave at any point in history to know what was wrong with it, if "I don't want to be enslaved, other people probably don't either" isn't something you can reach on your own

So TJ still wouldn't free them?
@nimbletimplekins760110 ай бұрын
@@JohnSoh How naive are you to think that Jefferson had any significant say in the goings on of a plantation that was owned by his entire family? His family was huge, there was at least 10 jefferson men at monticello alone when Eston Hemmings was conceived. TJ himself was actually a staunch abolitionist, even going so far as to pro-bono represent freed slaves in the courts in 2 Virginia suits. Definitely did way more to oppose slavery than you ever will in your entire life, seeing as your pfp proudly flies the flag of a nation that brazenly engages in one of the most brutal forms of slavery in the modern world: conscription.

Back when the Union was fighting a war to free the black slaves in America, in Europe especially Russia Jews were being treated about as bad as slaves. NOBODY cared nobody did a thing about it. To this day Jews are still fighting to get the respect they deserve. In the mean while African Americans are still crying about something that happened a century and a half ago.
