I can't seem to let this poem go. It seems like every year I go back and listen to this one and a few others. Every year it hits a bit different due to losing friends, change of environment, or maybe just age. I feel like this poem knows me and I know it. But idk, its just my thoughts

This is kinda touching- if a man can go all out to make a meal for the man who killed his brother then what does that say about us? If he can do that yet the rest of us drill into others beat them down shatter them just because they say something we don’t like- they take nothing from us and yet we hate them for no reason aside from who they are, what they said, sometimes it’s jealousy- we hate everyone while some people will never forgive the true criminals but they’ll still do the best they can for that person-

@waisehell7 жыл бұрын
it's pretty straight forward about a cook who makes the last meals for the prisoners about to be executed and one day he had to make the last meal for the guy who killed his brother and "that was the testament to his ethics"; he didn't let anyone else replace him. But Shane, like always, inserts an existential and social commentary in his story so he talks about jobs and how people do them out of necessity nowadays and choice has been nailed to a cross.
@rachelgolden5015 жыл бұрын
waisehell yes but it is the cooks brother or the prisoners brother?

@@rachelgolden501 The guy the cook was serving had killed the cook's brother. That's why the cook couldn't explain to his mother why he wasnt able to make the execution to the murderer of his own brother.

His brother killed his brother, he has to make his last meal, live with the guilt of not making it to his brothers execution, with his mother. The mother of the same brother. He could not let anyone else cook for his brother, wishing he could cook just as well as their mom did. And it never got touched. That's what Ive understood from it.
