This one hit me so hard and made me think of my grandpa and dad. After two minutes, I'm still sitting here crying. I had a complicated relationship with my father when I was young and his death-day was just three days ago (six years). What a beautiful tribute to a man you had a difficult relationship with yet obviously loved.

I first saw Shane during the televised opening ceremonies of the 2010 Vancouver Olympics and then became a true fan of him last night when I watched around ten videos of his in continuous succession. He is a master wordsmith and beautiful human being who truly speaks from his own experience and wisdom and he does make people cry and I cry and I am also a guy. While in this piece he is specifically speaking of his own grandparents his message is universal and can be applied to any relative sibling parent partner or friend for whom we have become close yet been so distant to beyond the end evoking understanding for them while gaining empathy to ourselves within and this is why we so readily do cry.

"Well it's a metaphor." "For what?" "Marriage." "What?" "Think about it, you put on the ring you're invisible o all your friends, the ring slowly drives you mad, and the great eye is always watching." I laughed my f***ing *** off.

Lord of The Rings is a metaphor, marriage. you put on The Ring and you're invisible to all of your friends. The Ring slowly starts to drive you mad. And the great eye is always watching you!

I always make those kinds of jokes. I'm never really that serious and I'm always kinda smiling, but when I'm joking I don't emote at all and I speak in a stern voice. It's surprising what you can make people believe just by facial expressions and tone. It sounds manipulative, but I never go into it wanting to trick someone. It's when someone starts to take me seriously that I run with it and see how far I can get. I've convinced people that I'm "lactose tolerant" and that it was a real thing, and that I believed all elderly should be euthanized by the age of 80 to save money used for their services, and many more things. Of course I eventually come clean, but it's best just to let it ruminate with people. Now writing it out it sounds manipulative as hell, but those are just the things I find funny, dry humor.

Why do they call it "the winter of your life"? In winter the plant life is dead or hibernating.
