I am too young to remember Shane in his prime, and although Irish music doesnt naturally relate to me being a southern Englishman, I cant help but be drawn to Shane’s music and lyrics. Fairytail of New York is seared into the minds of English and Irish people and we share in that. He spoke for the downtrodden and for everyone who’s life who didnt work out the way society demands of people. He also transcends being Irish and English in a way no one else has and it makes me want to learn more about Ireland and its history. I think English people are often guilty of ignorance of that and its born from the horrific discrimination and persecution of the Irish in the past. Every interview I have seen with Shane he came across as a lovely, humble and kind human being. There is a sense of vulnerability about him and the interviewers, whether it was Danny Baker or Frank Skinner, come across as complete insensitive arseholes. RIP Shane 🇮🇪🇬🇧

Shane did well considering the quick questions fired by Baker but you can see in his responses he often takes time to think about it and give a truthful response. Baker often interrupts him here before he gets to finish a sentence because it takes shane time. Its like Shane is operating in a different time zone, one that's less erratic and more meditative and I imagine he would write in the same way.

How Shane walked down those wobbly stairs just goes to show how professional he is
@grannysgonerabid742511 ай бұрын
he actually looks sober in this one, but his gait which appears wobbly was due to an injury in the 80s when he was clipped by a London cab and didn't get his leg set properly when he broke it. Every interviewer at this time was trying to make Shane admit he was always drinking,nothing is worse than Pat Kenny,at least there's a bit of humour in this rather than a full forward attack at drinking,whether he was drinking or not won't change the fact that his brain was phenomenal and he's one of the greatest poets and lyricists Ireland has ever produced

He answered honestly & usually gave them a much more clever quip that they didn't know how to respond to! He was feckin brilliant & just an amazing soup. I watched an interview where he was being pressed about the fallout with Sinéad & he handled it honestly & beautifully. I'm glad those two were able to make up later. Shane didn't usually hold a grudge too long & that was probably the longest. I'm sure he needed to let that go, even though she could have handled things differently.
