Spent one third of the time painting three dragons, gets rid of them without hesitation

I love how seemingly non-deterministic he is in making his artworks. With mine, it’s like, once I get started down a path, I stick with it-but with him, he keeps on optimizing and changing stuff until it suits his vision best. How he made that simple drawing get incredible lighting so fast was almost like magic! Honestly, every single video Ruan Jia does is one you need to take notes on! Pretty much _nothing_ compares to his work, his process, and his quality!

Real man, man is objectively the greatest technical artist in the world

Yeah Ruan Jia's ability to render light is crazy.

Remember that in his case, these are his freetime and mostly for fun work. This is definately not what he does on the professional pieces workflow.

@@trasharms5170there are so many artists there to be honest. That you cannot say that one is objectively better than everyone expecially when looking at other Chinese artists.

The way he drew those dragons so fast was insane. Like that would have been the entire session if that were me.

@@shinjite06hellyeah, after all this work, to be able to abandon it allbecause it was not working for the overall composition he wanted takes a ton of artistic maturity and will (that he obviously has in spades).

@@shinjite06like oil artists or woodblock printmaking carvers, or even animators, where the work takes such a long time, but at some point if its not working they have to scrap it because starting from scrstch will be better in the long run.

This feels like one of those 'my sketchbook at 13 vs my sketchbook now' memes at the start - but good god, it's a treat to see the master at work.

@@michaeljackson1175If he spoke Japanese, Spanish, or English, at least I’d be able to understand him 😢 But Chinese is so different from all those languages (surprisingly, Chinese is actually more similar to English than Japanese in terms of grammar in that English and Chinese are both analytic languages while Japanese is synthetic-though, I can at least read some Chinese because the Kanji/Hanzi characters [at least in traditional Chinese] are generally the same as in Japanese)…

The brush called "skill". No joke, you can do this with basic round brush, only thing that will be different is the texture itself, but everything else(composition, colour, render, lighting etc.) will be the same
