We will stay at Radisson Collection Hyland Shanghai right at East Nanjing Road too. Grateful if you could advise if it is easy to find early morning breakfast near the hotel before we go out visiting tourist areas e.g Zhujiajiao
@LoneTravellerX9 ай бұрын
There are several large multi storey food courts on East Nanjing Rd plus restaurants on side lanes that might open early like 8am. However I am not sure as I always prefer eat near the places I am visiting. Going to Zhujiajian takes 1 hour 10mins by metro with one station change. I ate both breakfast and lunch in Zhujiajiao. Its a busy place so I recommend reach there early before 9am. There are even McD and Pizzahut there other than local food.

After watching your videos I have a few more questions: 1. Can you rank which garden is the most visiting (Yuyuan garden, Humble administrator Garden, Lingering garden, or others)? I want to visit only 1-2 gardens. 2. Have you been to Teamlab in Japan? Should I skip teamlab in Shanghai if I’ve already been to the one in Japan? 3. Which temple did you like most in Suzhou/Shanghai? (I plan to pick only one) Thank you! Your videos feel more realistic than others and it helped me a lot!
@LoneTravellerX3 ай бұрын
I would consider the best is Humble Administrator Garden. Then Lingering Garden. These 2 are consider two of the top 4 traditional gardens in China. Yuyuan Garden is much smaller. However do that note that the ponds do get frozen in late december as you might notice in my Suzhou video. Best is Autumn or Spring time. I like Jade Buddha Temple more than JingAn temple. There are no famous temple in Suzhou. Teamlabs all over the world are quite similar. Only two or three things might be different. So it is not worth going again within 2 or 3 years even in different country. But they do change their major exhibit after a few years.

Thanks for this very informative video :) The visuals are amazing too! I'll be visiting over the May holidays, do you have specific advice on how to deal with the large number of people?
@LoneTravellerX9 ай бұрын
It is advisable to avoid 1st to 5th May as it is China golden week holiday and there will be more crowd than normal. Other than that, try to go early for Yuyuan Garden (Opens 9am) and Zhujiajiao (Reach there 9am). It start to get crowded at both places around 10.30am onwards. Shopping areas like Yuyuan Bazaar and Nanjing Road are crowded as well but it actually made the places more lively. Wish you a enjoyable trip!

Hey ,your video motivated me to visit Shanghai. Please advise which data plan I should buy.
@LoneTravellerX3 ай бұрын
Hope you have an enjoyable trip! As for data plan, I used my own country's carrier Maxis international roaming. It is around USD 20 for 15 days, 2GB high speed data per day. I seen many people recommend Airalo for cheapest eSim. But i see it is more expensive than Maxis. 20GB is USD 49. So i recommend you check your local carrier international roaming charges. Definately get eSim or International roaming as local sim do not allow access to insta, youtube, whatsapp, google map etc.
@TinaTT3272 ай бұрын
You need vpn
@LoneTravellerX2 ай бұрын
Vpn is only needed if you are using a China sim card. If you are using international roaming from your own country's carrier, no vpn needed. You can access the same websites or apps as in your own country.

I think an interesting video would be about the cost of the trip (transportation+hotel+food, etc) with recommendations of like the hotel and so on
@LoneTravellerX10 ай бұрын
For future videos I will add in entrance fee information to attractions or activities. And also an estimated daily costs. Hotel and food costs depends heavily on traveler own preferences. It is more accurate to check hotel review on booking sites but I find the hotels are decent based on price paid (compared to Seoul or Osaka). Below yuan prices are estimate due to currency fluctuations. Good hotels can range from 400 yuan to 750 yuan a night for 2 person (same cost for 1 person). Regular daily food cost is 100 yuan a day. Transportation cost within a city about 20 yuan a day (Metro, Didi, Bicycle). Transportation is cheap assuming mostly using Metro as first choice. Three high speed train trip between shanghai, suzhou, hangzhou costs total 360 yuan for first class seats. It will be 40% cheaper if book as 2nd class. International roaming costs 135 yuan for 15 days. Most expensive attractions: Shanghai Ocean Aquarium 245 yuan, Teamlabs Borderless 200 yuan, Shanghai Tower 180 yuan, Xixi Wetland entrance and cruise 140 yuan, Tongli watertown 100 yuan. Other attractions generally 40-60 yuan each.

Very informative video.Can we know if it's necessary to buy the metro card first? We are not sure whether we will be using metro often but maybe more using didi rides. How does the metro card work? Do you need to top up a min. amount and what happens to the unused amount?. tq
@LoneTravellerX9 ай бұрын
Thanks you for watching. The advantage of using Metro is that it is very cheap. For example Didi from Pudong airport to Shanghai city center would be rmb 160. While taking Metro is around 7 rmb per person. Though it may be better to take Didi if you have 3-4 people in your group. Buy the Metro card at the station serving the airport. A machine sells the card for 20 rmb which is a deposit. And a seperate machine allows you to top up at minimum of 10 rmb. If you do not wish to buy first, you can still buy it at any Metro stop ticket desk during their operating hours. I top up 100 rmb and used around that amount for a 8 days trip. If you have remaining amount, you can return the card (in good condition) and get back the 20 rmb deposit as well as any balance. However the card can only be returned at these locations: Line 1: Hanzhong Rd, Henshan Rd, Jingjiang Park and Gongkang Rd stations. Line 2: Jiangsu Rd, Nanjing East Rd and Century Park stations. Line 3: Dongbaoxing Rd, Caoxi Rd and Zhenping Rd stations.

Do you need VPN for social apps and google maps when you have international roaming?
@LoneTravellerX5 күн бұрын
What you can access would follow the mobile network provider you bought the international roaming. If that provider block a certain app in your home country, it will still be block while in China. If everything normally works in your home country, then international roaming will allow all the apps to work as well. Google map can be accessed with international roaming but it don't detect your location that accurately. What I do is to look at any nearby landmark such as park or river or building and see if I am near them for reference. Baidu map will be accurate but it is only in chinese. VPN is not necessary if you have international roaming. Take note that NordVPN and ExpressVPN won't work.

Big thanks to this very informative video! During your stay in China, is there any situation when you need cash? Can you solely rely on e-payment?
@LoneTravellerX5 ай бұрын
Thanks for viewing my video! E-payment is always an option of any type of purchases or service throughout my visit. As a solo traveller, i prefer to over prepare, so bringing some cash might be good in case you lose mobile signal. A small amount less than 1000 yuan for a few days trip.

Did i ask you how to treansit between cities? Shanghai suzhou an ld hangzhou? More of the question of moving luggage across cities and putting at hotel first before seeing sights?
@LoneTravellerX7 ай бұрын
Best way to move between Shanghai, Hangzhou, Suzhou is by high speed rail. You can refer to the later section of my Shanghai video to see how you can book on Trip.com. I have always left my luggage with the hotel first even before check in time before go sightseeing. However there are also paid luggage lockers at the main train stations (not the metro stops). You can ask the station staff where they are located.

I would recommend staying at any hotels close to any metro stops. I personally stayed at Radisson Collection Hyland Shanghai right at East Nanjing Road (5 minutes walk from metro). Pace Hotel Suzhou Guanqian Branch (5 minutes walk from metro). Hangzhou Sofitel Westlake Hotel (15 minutes walk from metro). If you book through Agoda or Trip.com, it should be ok. Some smaller hotels do not accept foreigners due to China regulations. Hotels listed on those websites should be fine.

Do you recommend going to Puyou instead of Zhujiaojiao for less tourists?
@LoneTravellerX5 ай бұрын
Apologies. I am not familiar with Puyou. And i couldn't find it based on google search. From Shanghai, most convenient watertown is Zhujiajiao but very touristy and huge crowd. If you have more time and full day, Nanxun or Tongli are less crowded. You can check out the list in my Suzhou video at 7.43seconds for the full list. Alternatively Suzhou (not a watertown) is 40mins away and excellent as well.

@yengsiangho76869 ай бұрын
i might be able to do 9 days but i cant confirm yet. trying to plan for point options
@LoneTravellerX9 ай бұрын
A bit rush but still possible. I would ideally want 4 days in Shanghai, 3 days in Suzhou and 3 days in Hangzhou. If you have only 8 days, remove Zhujiajiao (Very crowded) as I would recommend going Tongli instead (near Suzhou) and combine Nanjing East Road(It is just shopping) to the other days. Use that day for Shanghai Disneyland. As of remaining 5 days, you have to make a decision on which cities are getting the 3 days and 2 days. Suzhou are for Chinese Gardens and Tongli. While Hangzhou for Westlake. Just bear in mind that you have to miss at least some key attractions for the city you choose to have only 2 days. Do book your train tickets early. The booking opens 14 days ahead of actual travel dates in Trip.com. Hope this helps.

@LoneTravellerX6 ай бұрын
Yu Garden is only open 9am to 4.30am and last ticket sale is 4pm. You should allocate 1 hour to 1.5 hour for Yu Garden. Some other travel videos wrongly mention Yu Garden and Yuyuan Bazaar and might confuse viewers. Yu Garden is the chinese traditional garden area. Yuyuan Bazaar is the nice looking shops/restaurants just outside Yu Garden. Yu Garden is closed by 4.30pm. Yuyuan Bazaar is open till late (9.30pm or 10pm) and is lighted beautifully at night. Hope this helps.

I just came from there. Was there for 6 days. Didn't really like it. Didn't dislike it. There's nothing fascinating about it because it's just a copy of Hong Kong. Why they felt the need to copy HK is incomprehensible. The metro is efficient but one thing annoyed me. If you've bought a ticket and wanted to get off one stop before the original destination, they won't let you out. You have to get off exactly on the station that you selected when you bought the ticket. It makes no sense.
