That Philco turned out pretty nice. If you ever run out of that double sided tape, another thing that it's used for is to stick soap and paper towel dispensers on to ceramic tile walls in public washrooms. It is a thin layer of foam about 1/16 to 1/32" thick with the adhesive on each side. You would have to cut them down to the size you want cause they are about 6" square. Should be able to pick them up from a janitor wholesaler.

So good chance given how good the red/green emission was and the fact the electronics are working that it was a low-ish hour set that just had a duff CRT.

Just awsome, I could have watched a 12 hour video of you repairing this tv and safefty glass removal. Both this channel and your mining one are two of the best on utube. If it wasn't for utubes censorship in favor of big business product reviews Im sure your channels would attract at least a couple of million viewers. I try to plug your channels as often as is possible. Thank you for sharing this amazing fix.

Also the rototweebulator could go off in a “no rototweebulating zone”, and they’ll come haul your TV off to be turned into a fish tank while a loud airplane flies overhead, or there’s a noisy dog barking, or someone using a leaf blower nearby. Used to work for Sylvania tv. We used a hot tub with a small amount of acid. Then heated the shield till it it fell off. With little labor. We had a stack of them that was cleaned and buffed out. Reattached then off to regun for a new set of guns. Sold as remanufactured. With a 90 day warranty. And yes the material can" leak" off the " emitters" and grow weak. Tv shop stopped. and was after Mrs Clinton came to our factory. closed. Philips snuck out of town. went to Mexico. Then China. I fed a famly of 6 on that salary. Creeps just not satisfied till folks are broke and hurting. Harpo! Too bad we can't even show the Indian test pattern I liked him.

@@anthonyboarman3833 absolutely. Radio tubes, tv tubes emit electrons. (Thorium coating. Heats up and free electrons are aimed at phosphor) to excite ,and emit the pretty color. To be exact there is series of phosphor such as p1 p2, p3, and p4 = different results. In your case there are rows of dots in a triads. Newer sets there are squares.(windows) each of three guns hit there respective spot to create the picture. Yes I was rocket man all that teck was just my job 7 days a week and fill 6 people's stomachs till NAFTA and Clintons old lady came to our factory and waved her magic wand and our company sliped across the borderline and we lost our jobs. I actually really like the Beltron rejuvinater and I have 2 of them. I had, possibly still have, one of the BK set ups. It had some nice things to try and fix shorts but I had way better luck rejuvinating or cleaning the guns with my Beltrons. I bought a fully rebuilt and updated Beltron with all the latest crt plugs and updated manuals probably over 10 years ago knowing I probably would never use it again but my scrapped one I was given by a TV shop made my repairs better because I could save more sets and have them look good and still sell cheap. I did replace tubes on the better sets usually with rebuilt ones for 75 to 100 bucks. I don't think anyone rebuilds or sells crt's now and I haven't rebuit or fixed a crt set in years.

in RCA's plant in bloomington in we had a thing we called a zapper (I was told that it was a car coil?) that would generate a spark that would jump about an inch from the metal tip to the pins of the picture tube -in hopes of burning off any short or dirt on the electron guns -but we never had a lot of luck with it working

while working as a line TV trouble shooter at RCA -the most bizarre thing that happened was on a set that came of the line for a broken neck on the kine tube - it was sent to repair to have a new kine changed- after about and hour the set came back with another broken neck-_ in all this set had been through our station about 5 or 6 times before it ever got to me- after reading the tag and seeing it had gone through another troubleshooter 3 times without ever noticing he had sent it to repair for a new tube before I had it sent to the lab- the result was a yoke coil was wired wrong and was deflecting the electron beam to were it was acting just like a bottle cutter or hi power laser and neatly cutting off the neck of the picture tube just in front of the yoke . that was the only time that this had ever happened that anyone was aware off and was possible.

Shango did a really nice job with that old roundie television set. I wonder how much ionizing X-radiation bounces off of the back of the shadow mask of the CRT; although, by 1967 CRT glass on color TVs would have likely been doped with lead. Should the voltage-regulation circuit unexpectedly malfunction, exposure could be well beyond safe levels. A Geiger counter would have been helpful to measure such exposure.
@jazbell7
@jazbell7 5 жыл бұрын
As I understood it at the time, the HV shunt regulator gave off more X-rays than the picture tube. Of course that is in a metal box and at the rear of the set.

@@jazbell7 It is unsure as to whether the thin pot-metal enclosure housing the HV-shunt regulator provides sufficient shielding from exposure to potentially deadly levels of X-radiation for the techs who worked on that set. Polyvinyl acetate is used to make glues (think Elmer’s school and carpenter’s yellow glue), wallpaper paste, and ... best of all ... the rubbery chewy substance in chewing gum. Yummy! It should degrade faster in contact with microorganisms (bacteria), so adding some yeast to the bath water might speed up the delamination process; so long as the bacteria isn’t the glass-eating sort!

PVA is what standard white Elmer's glue is. It's not an epoxy. And yes it does stand for Poly Vinyl Acetate. As I understand it's somewhat similar chemically to PVC what plastic pipes and vinyl records are made out of.

When I was a kid, maybe 5 or 6 years old, back in '75 or '76, we had a '64- or '65-model Zenith 25-inch console TV in our basement. One day I went down there to watch TV, and about 15 or 20 seconds after turning it on it started popping and sparking -- crazy!! Scared the hell out of me! I ran upstairs and told our maid that the TV was on fire! Luckily, before anything truly bad happened, a fuse popped somewhere and it shut off. I was scared to death of TVs for *years* afterwards. Hated to get near one to turn it on. In the early '80s when we got our first remote-controlled TV (a Sony Trinitron), I was so relieved that I'd never have to be near a TV again when I turned it on.

Shango has not yet done an EOL video this year. Maybe the dud CRT would be a likely candidate?

What exactly was the purpose of the glass at the front of the CRTs? And why did more modern CRTs stop using it?

Safety glass to protect in case the tube imploded. Keeps all the bits & pieces inside the cabinet and out of your face.

I love your videos but it sucks you have 720p 60fps, the internet here at the hospital is only good for 720p 30fps or I'm stuck at 480p

Can't help thinking someone will start rebuilding these tubes again for big bucks. Hate to destroy the few tubes we have left though space consuming for sure.

The sealant they put in there seems like it’s got such a weird consistency, almost like a foam or something and only around the edges right? Strange

Ever try alcohol and fire to heat the glass ? I had a friend years ago that would cut down windshields for custom cars and he would use alcohol to heat the laminate before the cut. It may work for you.
