Okay, going by the numbers you offer at the end: 1. Étude (as in the type of musical composition) second version from the late 60s early 70s. Be careful when taking it apart. I have vague memories of some weirdness going on with the construction. Medium and long wave receiver, with a really tiny speaker, so don't expect much from it. 2. Neyva-M, again second version, from the mid 60s. Fragile, due to the old plastic, but should perform well. Medium and long wave receiver. 3. Quartz-404, one of my favourites, from the mid 70s. I had the version with medium and short wave, while yours has medium and long. Tremendously loud with a really strong plastic case. Coupled with the extra thick leather case makes this one the equivalent of an armoured personnel carrier. 4. Nevskiy-402. A really weird one, made in the late 80s, early 90s. Has medium and short wave, with a fine tuning control for SW. It also has a built in flashlight - that rectangle next to the dial. It has a little flap covering the light, and the red button on the side activates it. The one I had performed poorly. Didn't care for it enough to examine why. I vote for this one. I'm curious to see if you can get it going. 5. Sokol-310, medium and long wave, from the mid to late 80s. Never had one, so no other comments. One general note on Russian radios: I've noticed that in later years - late 70s, through to the 90s, the quality control took a sharp nosedive. Older receivers are more likely to just work, while newer ones may have problems with the electrolytics, cracked and dry solder joints and faulty earphone sockets.

Now Shango has a medal for 10 years service in armed forces of USSR :) The Nevsky 402 you're interested in utilises soviet equivalent of Siemens' TCA440. This IC is one of the oldest of its kind and before the higher frequencies and bandwidth from Siemens - the S 042 and the now ubiquitous NE/SA602-612 appeared most of the derect conversion receivers build by radio and electronics amateurs were build upon this IC as well as half of industrially manufactured consumer radios.

That Sokol-310 definetely was army's anniversary gift for some soviet soldier. It contains soviet army personal tag and a medal "ussr military forces - for 10 years of flawless service". It is definitely unique and most worthy thing from the whole pile. Sad that some people are selling their family's history for few bucks on ebay. Actually I'm never stop to be amazed how you guys love such soviet stuff there because most of those radios are like useless junk here, no one wants it and AM is dead here (same as soviet 64-74 MHz FM). I'd vote for Nevskiy-402 'cause it uses more modern guts. Also would like to see perfomance comparsion of it with other radios as you did before in the desert.

The plastic wrap is good in case a package gets wet in transit, e.g. some genius drops it in a puddle. Gives the item an extra chance to stay dry. Someone told me this is the reason behind the Chinese obsession with yellow packing tape.

Each of the receivers is interesting in its own way .. The first two are assembled according to the standard scheme used in both small and large receivers. The third receiver with an interesting low frequency amplifier. Fourth on integrated circuits yes! , and quite good selectivity .. But if the microcircuit is damaged, then you will have to spend a lot of time looking for it. The fifth receiver with a more modern sound amplifier and in terms of circuitry is closer to the third.

I vote for number 4 - Nevskiy-402. Its from the end of USSR, so I expect worse quality of parts, even the radio is quite new. Its a pity that soviets didnt made smaller radios with FM, only the bigger ones like Selena. AM radios are now pretty useless in Europe, because AM broadcasting is ending. Other socialistic countries (Czechoslovakia, Hungary, East Germany) made many radios with AM/FM, even some smaller ones.
