She overcome poverty, hungry, domestic violence and abuse, the tragedy of losing her parents in a car accident having to take care of her 3 siblings singing in a hotel to make money, her husband and best friend cheating on her. Of course she can deal with Lyme desease!! I`m sure she is bulletprof too!! What an AMAZiNG INSPIRATIONAL WOMAN. She is and always will be mi favorite artist, even with her voice broken. Her music and strength help me in the hard times. Way to go Shania. That bacteria have no idea who is messing with.

Eric well, I didn't mean it literally physically when I said she's different. But no I didn't notice her left eye was a little closed. Maybe it's a side effect of lyme's disease, there's something in her eye like make up, or she's tired. Or all 3. Either way, I hope she feels better soon. She actually looks pretty good for someone who's over 50 years old. & she's still got lots of energy! ☺

I love Shania's point around 17:39 about how she thought of country music in such a different vein than Americans. In America, I feel that Country/Western music was tied to such a strong regional identity (Dixie South/American Southwest) and maybe some Appalachian regions, whereas Shania being Canadian viewed anyone who incorporated their own background into their music as someone who was a "country" folk singer. I thought that was really poignant and beautiful, especially for someone as myself who grew up in industrial Northeast Ohio, I totally relate to understanding country music and that sentiment without necessarily having it be so related to a certain lifestyle. Anyone who sings from their heart and has humble beginnings can be a country musician. It still amazes how this young woman from Northern Canada came down to Nashville, and if detractors may disagree that she didn't "save" country music, she definitely broke open the doors to let the industry re-invent the genre and save itself.

Jenni, I know your post is 1 year old but I wanted to let you know you should look into alternative medicine specifically good clean food to heal your body. Watch the free you tube documentary called “Super Juice Me” and also “Sick, fat & nearly dead” (on their site same name). Look up “Jason vale juicing you tube” & “Jason Vale ginger shots you tube”. These two documentaries will give you the understanding of why veggie juicing (for you not fruit juicing = too much sugar = virus & bacteria love sugar) will heal/help your body. Look into also the benefits of eating fresh ginger and also swallowing whole garlic cloves (both garlic & ginger are anti-bacterial fighters & virus fighters natural). Look into also the use of saunas to detox your body & fight the bacteria & virus you have from lyme. Also, look into Dr Joel Fuhrman’s books Eat to live and also Super Immunity (your local library may have them). Also, look into Water fasting (see you tube channels Dr Berg & also Dr Mindy Pelz for water fasting videos). Conventional medicine does not heal your body...but, these things will get your body working again correctly. I’m sorry that you are suffering. Been there too with lyme & these are the things that saved me. You will be shocked at how good you feel just after 10 days of juicing or following the book Eat to Live. And in 30 days you will feel closer to your old self with a lot of energy. Cheers to good health.

rhymeandreasoning - - Lyme bacteria Infection messed up her vocal cord nerves. Shania said it. Lyme bacteria buries deep in the body's bones, nerves, spine and hard to eradicate. it's a spirochete, cork screw ancient bacteria, hides very well from antibiotics. It's why so many people have it long term & end up debilitated with chronic illness and fatigue. Can be expensive to treat symptoms. I've spent thousands already. I spent $500 on IV Ozone Oxygen this spring ($100 ea session), and it's not a cure. It helps us with basic function & fatigue.

I just looked up the history of the name Lyme disease. Per history, it was named after Lyme, Connecticut where the tick was discovered in the 60s to 70s causing increasing symptoms in the town & nearby areas. So since it's not named after a person, it makes sense to keep it called "Lyme" disease. But most people barely know this condition exists, let alone how to pronounce it. Eventually society will catch on. > www.bayarealyme.org/about-lyme/history-lyme-disease/

July 14, 2019 I have/had _Lyme_ disease. It is horrible. I will _always_ test positive for Lyme disease. I do not know how anyone will truly know if I get Lyme disease again, as Lyme disease victims always test positive after contracting it. My podiatrist recently ordered a thorough blood test for me, including checking for Lyme disease. I've not told him I've already had it. I should get the test results tomorrow. Always look for ticks on you if you even think you may have been near them. Get them off of you immediately. Also, the term Lyme disease does come from Lyme, Connecticut, where years ago there was an outbreak of this tick disease. However, after recently watching a documentary, a woman was misdiagnosed with MS. She died young. She actually had Lyme disease and an STD. Antibiotics would have kept her alive and she would have recovered. When I remember the name of the documentary, I'll supply it. The actual tick disease started on Long Island, Delaware, if I remember correctly. It stemmed from a government experiment gone wrong. Lyme, CT, is near the island.

There is couple of Lyme treatments that work great like, the use of colloidal silver, ozone therapy also stevia works well. There’s even a new one that only one clinic does which is to heat the body up because the spirochete doesn’t do well with heat and this treatment is with antibiotics as well all though colloidal silver would probably work better. I would like to say I understand where Shania is coming from kinda of on the vocal chords. Although I did not have Lyme's disease, I had 2 of the 4 types of cancer you can have. And a tumor that was the size of 1 1/2 human fist around my vocal chords, there was no choice but to snip them in surgery and could not speak at all for a bout 3 months maybe a bit longer. There are alot of tones and pitches I still can't make and its been almost a year. My voice will never be the same but I can talk now just not over a certain level. And she is right, you have to adjust to it. For her being an artist I can't even imagine her struggle. But I loved her then and still love her today.☺💙🎶🎤

Everyone has that “when I was little I would put on my moms high heels and perform to ___” story. For me it was Shania.

What a personal hell to be a singer for life and a fucking tick causes you to not be able to do what you live for.💔

It makes me mad to read about her neurologist. They diagnosed her with nerve damage of the throat from Lyme disease. But the few neurologist I been to, could not diagnosed Pundendal Neuralgia ( Pelvic nerve pain). They still don't know what is wrong. 😢 It's been thirteen years I had unidignosed Pundendal Neuralgia. People go as long or more with undiagnosed illness like Lyme disease , Fibromyalgia, etc.. I am grateful she made it through.

I feel like the interviewer could have spent as little more time researching the basics of Shania's backstory. A lot of these questions were covered on her TV show (the vocal issues) and in her autobiography (her early performing years and move to the U.S.). He's coming off a little uninformed, he should have read her Wikipedia as preparation.

So, here's the thing. I grew up listening to rock, Iron Maiden, Rush, AC/DC etc since I was very young but I also liked singers like Shania. Not that that I could ever admit that back in the day. All my favorite musicians are super nice and humble people, Dio, Cozy, Copland, Peart, (I'm drummer biased) and Shania is so in that group as well.Lady dude is a perfect description because that's how she comes across but actually sh'es a tremendous talent who had to work her ass off to get where she is.
