"Silent Prayer" is my favorite song from "Inner Child". I can't belive this is my first time seeing this performance from Arsenio!! Man, THIS is what R&B should be today. 1992, those were the days!! Simply A M A Z I N G!! Both of them!!

Man, I haven't heard this song in a month of Sundays. I forgot all about it and how beautiful it was. Takes me back to junior high. Still sounds great. Shanice, girl, you need to make a comeback and show these so called R&B chicks out now how it's done.

I agree 100%. Johnny Gill, Shanice and production courtesy of the great Narada Micheal Walden, this track was winning on every level. I was fortunate to grow up in this era with so many talented artists.
@killermonsterboy12 жыл бұрын
100% agree. Back in OLD old skool soul/R&B music melisma was manipulated in such a FLOWING purposeful way to the music/lyrics. It was the time when the 'soul' in one's voice was solely defined by vibrato and power, not by overused inflections that was trending in the 90s.

Just heard this song on the radio and had to look for a performance on KZbin. I had Shanice's album that had this song on it and I would play this over and over again. I wish they sang it as simply and sweetly as they did on the album...No need to 'take it to church' for The Arsenio Hall Show. Still love the song.

I Love this song soo much! And this performance was Wonderful! I don't feel Johnny Gill was oversinging or trying to outshine Shanice. When a true music artist loves music and has that passion for performing, they truly get into their songs, especially when they're love songs like this. For example, when Wanye from Boys 2 Men sings, his arms, head, and neck moves to almost every note he sings in every song that he sings, Lol! And I Know y'all see that. And that's not him outshining and trying to gain the spotlight, that's just him getting into the songs and everybody performing their best for the fans. Letting everyone know that's their true voices and their true talent! Artists feel their music in different ways but their goals should always be to give their best wherever and whenever they perform. That's how true everlasting fan base is built. And also gives them courage and confidence that they can continue to show their value no matter what happens in the future.

So true. Thanks for reminding me about Mint Condition. They always stayed true to their musical roots at the cost of not getting the airplay that crap R&B receives today; that's okay because they earned their fanbase. When people go to see them perform it's because they want and not because its the cool the thing to do nor because a corporate outlet told them to.

The song "Nothing Left To Say" by Mint Condition sounds like todays R&B has a chance but then again, they've been around since 1991 with "Breakin My Heart" so, they already KNOW what real R&B is! lol. But i agree with ya!

Exactly. Johnny Gill wasn't known for "oversinging", he was known as Baby Luther. that's a dumb term created by this new generation of non-singers. Luther also sang with intense passion. people who can't do what Luther & Johnny do vocally call it "oversinging".

I had to pause this looking at both of them not sure if this was planned or if they were having some sort of friendly unfriendly competition while he was singing otherwise the song is beautiful
