Thank you Shankar, just recently i shifted my bias from ETF and started investing in similarly priced or even lower cost index fund (considering ETF price fluctuations vs actual NAV and also the other charges like STT, stamp duty, etc) Maybe in a next video it would be very nice to see how the returns of ETF compare with index fund over a long period given that ETF price (at time of purchase) during market hours may be different than the actual NAV of the ETF, whereas in case of index fund there are no such discrepancies.

Pranav Impact cost is the hidden cost as rightly said by Sankar sir which differentiates etf from index funds, inflow and outflow impact also takes toll on unit price in index funds which is not in case of etf. Moreover,NAV is wrong term you used in case of etf unlike index funds.

The most important advantage is as you mentioned the NAV of MF is beyond our control and doesn’t feels right any time you invest in it. ETFs are far better with less expense ratios and no lockin periods. Hope the Fund houses will introduce more ETFs than MFs in future.

Your videos are amazing. You might want to put out a video on the making of ur videos as your narration and content is off the charts. 👍👍 Didn't really get the explanation behind impact cost and why inflow/outflow does not impact ETFs. Goes to basics of how an ETF operates vs an index fund I guess which I'm a bit short on.

Shankar Ji, if ETF were supposed to follow Index, then pls explain, today' s Hang Seng Index down by -0.75 %, while Nippon India Hang Seng Bees ETF down by -5.83%?
@shankarnath29 күн бұрын
Hello. While the expectation of perfect match is true, here are some things one should account for -- specific to international ETFs: 1. Time Zone Differences -- when the ETF is trading in India, the Hong Kong market might have already closed. This means the ETF is trading based on the latest closing price of the Hang Seng Index but market sentiment in India can still impact the ETF’s price 2. Currency Exchange Rates - For the Nippon India Hang Seng Bees ETF, the performance is not just dependent on the movement of the Hang Seng Index, but also on the INR-HKD exchange rate. A sudden depreciation can lead to mismatch 3. Tracking Error - Every ETF has tracking error. It takes time to buy and sell to match-up with the exact present status of the index. Plus there is management fees, rebalancing costs etc. to worry about. This leads to discrepancies and remember points 1 & 2 aswell 4. Expectations - Indian investors can use global cues about HK's market condition and trigger a sell off pushing the price down even though the Hang Seng Index hasn't fallen as much on that day You'll have to factor in all these to see what might have happened

But, can you pls do a video on what would be the rationale in picking between two for a long term investor? Asking this in the context of this small case: "Top 100 Stocks" by Windmill Capital. @shankarnath3 ай бұрын
I'm not sure. On a more broader level, unless the tax liability is low (0% or 10%), dividends won't make much sense. It's better to redeem units from time to time and pay capital gain on them. This way the taxation is lower. With re: your question, please explore -- www.valueresearchonline.com/stories/51500/are-dividends-on-etfs-credited-to-the-investor-s-account/

very helpful video. Covering almost everything. I have been trying to understand the allocation of units done when invested during NFO period. So do we receive the units as per the NAV or as per face value in case of investment done in the NFO period. Eg. If invested 2100/- in ICICI Oil and Gas ETF at face value Rs.10 during NFO period and the fund opened at 12.74 how many units are we to receive. I would be very obliged if you could help to make me understand this.
