Man shanks at the time was not yonko lvl and rn he is among the strongest yonko even one shoting kid and killer kid whom is at least 1st yk commander lvl/ fleet admiral lvl after shanks seen in the future that kid could sink thousands of fleet with one shot of the gun. Yet miwhak had to postpone vs vista who isnt even 3rd yk commander lvl which are the ones (1st 2nd and 3rd) who are equal to admirals. And vista even confirmed himself that it was better for both of them. Yet right before that miwhak said he knew who vista was and would be crazy to not know him yet vista never wanted the title and miwhak never fought him for it. And right before that miwhak stated that he was not holding back anymore. Proof of that is that after fighting vista he one shot das bones aka mr 1 yet is blocked again by crocodile prooving his lvl cant be much higher than yk commander maybe 1st yk commander/ admiral lvl. Which is league apart from shanks. Even more than this he actually is scared to the point he was sweating hard last time we seen him after buggy mentioned pirate king and fighting other yonkos. Mihawk do have feats. Going throughout out the full war without using a named attack + without even breaking a sweat. Mihawk has incredible stamina. Shanks finishes his fight too quickly. Mihawk fought for extended time. Mihawk sliced aokiji's mountain size ice just casually without using a named attack. His basic attacks are powerful enough. One of the only two known black blade weilders. "Mihawk keeps on fighting stronger and stronger opponents until he could find none and hence became the world's strongest swordsman". Shanks might be on gold roger's ship but mihawk has fought more.

I mean shanks is a yonko, the whole point of them is they are pirates so powerful the world government would rather not start a fight with them due to the potential damage it could cause. The world government had no issue trying to kill mihawk once they decided they didn’t need him any more. Fat luck of good it did them but they certainly weren’t scared of him to prevent trying.

I remember i played one piece game on PS3 where I played as mihawk. He slash wb with 1 unnamed attack laughing 1 green energy slash. In the game he can make it triple and 4 of green energy slash. And causing an earthquake. His ultimate literally he cuts through time. By doing this he cuts the dimension opening portal to another realm. It's so crazy

What makes shanks more terrifying is his mysterious character. He boarded the pirate king's ship, battled with the strongest swordsman, ended the paramount war with just political dialogue and reputation, faced the strongest man (wb) and gorosei alone, but he couldn't save luffy from a mere sea king without losing his arm? That doesn't add up I feel like he's staying passive on purpose and chose to not sit on the throne of strongest swordsman and pirate king. This neither means he's stronger than mihawk, nor that he couldn't defeat him. This is a wild statement but the reason behind this is the fact that he used the same move as the pirate king and may have acquired more skills from roger's arsenal. Although, because of lack of roger's swordsmanship related feats we can't say anything for sure but he one sided oden (one of the strongest swordsman of all time) and it'd make more sense if the pirate king never could've lost in a 1v1, even against the strongest swordsman like mihawk

Shanks is strongest than mihawk that's basically confirmed when you know that Shanks stopped Kaido when at the same time mihawk wanted to know how big the gape between the 7 warlors and whitebeard was. Considering that Shanks was on pair with Kaido and Whitebeard then it's clear there is a difference between Shanks and mihawk, Shanks win no doubt. Oda confirmed Shanks losing the arm didn't afecta his power.

I think the main point is that Shanks is also a powerful swordsman, but he relies on Haki as well. I’m sure Mihawk is more skilled in swordsmanship alone tactically, but doesn’t have access currently to Shanks level of haki. It’s a great topic to mull over with friends though! I always liked Mihawk more because he looks awesome and has the coolest sword in OP imo.
