I think at least a hundred views of this video are mine. I just finished my robe in velvet with silk lining, the two most challenging fabrics to work with, especially together. Your instructions are really clear and with the exception of the fact that I suck at piping (and buried almost all of it while sewing the collar onto the body) it all went well. Thank you so much for this gift to OFMD fans. I'll be heading over to your Ko-Fi now. We KZbinrs gotta stick together!

I feel like I saw you post this robe to the FB group a day or so before you left this comment, and if that was you, then it looked quite good!!
@GardenerdАй бұрын
@@ShannonMakes Yes, that was me! It came out really good. I took in the lining a bit more (after trying understitching that didn't really help) and it stopped flaring out as much. Honestly everyone I asked said they thought the lining flaring out was deliberate and they liked it. So I didn't fight it more.

Thank you for these tutorial videos! I've followed them and made myself a gorgeous robe. As I'm in Australia I made it using the cotton voile and left it unlined. Heading to your Kofi page to give you a tip.

Aww, thank you Jennie! I'm so happy to hear that you are now the proud owner of your own, handmade, OFMD robe... congratulations!! And 10/10 for using the cotton voile (also... SO much easier to work with than the velvet) in the Australian heat!!

Thank you so, so much for this brilliant and easy-to-follow tutorial! I finished my robe this morning and i think it is my favourite thing I’ve ever made. I made a cotton practice robe first, then went for it with the expensive-but-worth-it velvet. Any challenges along the way were 100% related to fabric choice - the pattern and method are perfect (there is, indeed, literally no way to mess this up). I used the hand-seen method Shannon uses in the tutorial to finish the hem and cuffs, and I found it worked fine. Seriously, if you’re thinking of making this robe, this is 100% the tutorial you are looking for. Thank you again Shannon, I’m not sure but I think you may be an actual goddess 😊

I am SO glad that you finished your robe, and that’s it’s already bringing you joy!! Also, huge congrats for tackling the velvet challenge (good idea to practice with the cotton first). I’m glad to hear the hand sewing for the cuffs and hem worked out well - I find it easier to have control on the fabric when sewing by hand, but I also know others can find it very tedious 😂 Thanks for watching, I’m glad it could help you along, and may you enjoy many fine days/weekends/evenings, etc in your fine new robe!! 🍊🏴☠️🫖

Your video is so helpful and engaging! I am a very, very low skill level sewer and was able to make a creditable robe that I love! One piece of feedback I have is that it's hard to tell visually which side of your fabric is which, and there are a couple of spots where I couldn't tell what sides you were pinning. A quick verbal note of which side to pin to what would be super helpful for those of us with lower skill levels who still want to learn. Thanks!

Glad it was helpful, thanks for the tip. I did try to mention what sides are what whenever it wasn't "good sides together," but it's definitely possible that I missed some... glad you were able to make it through nonetheless, and a massive congratulations! I hope you continue your sewing journey in the future, if you found it enjoyable

Thanks so much for doing such a detailed video on this! I have some experience with sewing (I recently made an outfit from a pattern entirely on my own for the first time), and whilst this seems pretty simple it's great to have it shown step by step (particularly the piping). I'm totally going to make this but first I need to finish the Stedwood shawl I'm weaving with the lighthouse/Kraken pattern I've designed! I'll do it in the velvet as I have several lightweight robes and it would be good to have a nice one for when it's colder. Also I'm thinking of giving it a brushed cotton lining for extra cosiness!

This is super helpful, thank you so much! Just successfully finished my robe. :) Just a note that in addition to the tassles on the collar, the other two tassles need to be sewed in the corners with the sleeves (step: "Sew the Sides"). I missed this the first time around and had to do some seam ripping.
@ShannonMakes2 жыл бұрын
Yes, thank you!! I don't know HOW I forgot to mention that part... I have gone in and added a card at that step which reads "Also, add your TASSLES" so hopefully others will notice and be saved the hassle of unpicking stitches!

Hey, if you want some extra motivation, check out my "Sewing on a Shoestring" (kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZqDcd6Nvfaycpqs) and it's follow-up video "Tiny Budget, Average Tools, AMAZING Clothes" - the whole point was to make sewing feel accessible and not like you need a zillion tools or a whole workspace to make nice things (like, you'll see, I almost quoted you verbatim in the intro of the first video), and I do both projects in a VERY AVERAGE (borderline small) IKEA table!!

Thank you so much for your amazing video!! I'm just about to start working on mine so I'm going through aaall the videos and blogposts I can find to make sure I'm really doing everything right, so I was wondering why you're so sure it's flat piping? It's not that I don't believe you, and God knows I'd rather do flat piping (it sounds much easier!) - I just haven't seen anyone else specify it like that! please know that I'm not trying to argue with you, I just want to make sure I do it the screen accurate way (and also I'm lazy and am looking for any excuse not to do the cord piping thing haha) Thanks again, this is SO much help!!
@ShannonMakes2 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure the costumer themselves specified that it was flat piping in an IG post? It's been a while now, so I don't 100% remember, but if you go through the costumer's IGs, it should be in there at some point I believe!

Thanks for these videos, Shannon! I absolutely need one of these in my life, but wasn't sure about patterning/construction. You mention that there are velvet and other plain weave options for fabric in the video. I've found the velvet online, wondering if you have tips on finding the non-velvet options?
@ShannonMakes2 жыл бұрын
You’re very welcome, I hope the video(s) help you! I got my fabric from Uniquecraftfabrics on Etsy and was very happy with it, but (at that point at least), they didn’t have pink, only the red. I’ve seen some non-velvet cotton at handicraft-palace .com which is the same vendor many ppl are getting their velvet from, otherwise if you search “birds of paradise” fabric or “our flag means death robe fabric” on Etsy or google you might find other options too!

I want to make this for my daughter!! What would you use to line the robe if I make it in rayon? She wants it to be cozy.
@ShannonMakes Жыл бұрын
It would depend a bit on the weave of the rayon, but if it's rather flowy, I'd say you could go with a similar fabric for the inside - anything that is similar in how it hangs/moves/stiffness as the outside fabric would be a good match!

Not sure if anyone will see this but idk what I'm doing wrong! I've gotten to the "attach the collar" step and getting super confused about which side to pin. I haven't been doing piping because I'm scared of piping so that may be the issue, but when I attach the collar to the front panels, there's a raw edge visible that I don't think will get covered in a later step? I'm so confused 🥲
@koolkatkasey2 жыл бұрын
I'm having confusion when it comes to the piping... I'm sewing it onto the good side of the fabric with raw edges touching? Will the raw edges end up being covered up by the lining when I finish it off? Sewing the piping to the good side seems wrong to me, but I am not a seamstress in the LEAST and don't trust my judgement either lol
@ShannonMakes2 жыл бұрын
Yup, the instructions are correct! If you see the piping to the bad side, it will remain trapped on the inside of the robe for all eternity once you attach the lining!
