It's basically a dance but a fighting dance and through this yet show ther power and how strong are they so yea but I think they are just amazing I saw this video 37 times and this is my 38 time I'm just obsessed with this!!!!
@Kryodragyn13 жыл бұрын
Funny how many people (mainly Westerners) think this is all just "dance moves". The Shaolin show off these moves for a reason. Not for fighting skills, but to show their physical prowess, ability, accuracy, flexibility, and dedication to their art. I can guarantee nearly 100% keyboard warriors couldn't pull off just about anything on here without killing themselves or at least breaking something that these guys never will.

though i completely agree with you, i am a martial artist of 20 years. i am 24. Can one truly ever become a "master"? Most martial artist know the story of the man who wanted to learn from a great martial artist who kept adding 10 years to how long it would take to "master" the specific style. ;)

The Chinese realized that these guys are a huge international attraction and that the monks are absolute public relations gold. So their attitude to the monastery did a complete reversal. They encouraged it to reopen and prosper, which was completely contrary to their position toward the monastery under the Communists.

I actually saw one of their shows when they came to Melbourne, one of the best things I've seen (and I've seen Swan Lake at the Bolshoi Theater) Somewhat conflicted in regards to the whole.. Shaolin Monks performing on stage, but it gives more people the chance to see and possibly understand a few extra things.

One of the basic rules in order to become a true kung fu expert is "not to fight unless your life is threatened", you'll never be able to see the true power of kung fu from a videotape that is planned; battle of life and death was never commercialized and never planned in advance And one of the essence of kung fu is "learning the many to finally get the one": there never was a second blow in a real kung fu fighting, it all ends with one deadly attack, not something you could see everyday
@f0rmula0914 жыл бұрын

@ShaolinEast ... I agree completely with you that it's a way of life and not a sport for entertainment. I know very well what the Shaolin Kung-Fu really is. I had been totally involved with it for 8 years. However I have already competed in 5 Kuoshu Championships (on the ring, with gloves, protection, etc) and also have attended to watch other dozen of them and what I most saw there were shaolin athletes who said they would represent an specific Shaolin style like Praying Mantis, Drunken...

@GuamKomudo Finally someone who understands the way these people take on their daily lives. The reason why people say there fighting ability and the way they train is useless because they haven't seen them fight in a real combat situation. But I'm sure If you did you'll be blown away :D

"Shoalin is for defence not attack!" Just had to put that in there. (LOL, movie Shaolin Temple) I believe kung fu mixes speed and anticipated moves. It's beautiful, it's like chess, you have to expect the next move even if it means getting hit. They've trained their bodies for every possible attack. I could see a kung fu artist "using" the ring to fight.

That's true it's whatever works but keep in mind that grappling and throwing can also backfire on you. I also agree that the power of the mind matters a lot in fight. Being able to take more pain and getting back up faster after getting hit matters as well. I've seen people who don't respond too quickly after getting hit or kicked etc. and they ended up getting wasted pretty fast. Long story short I think it's better to learn all forms but at least have one or more personal base form.
