The Shaolin Breeze Jian (Sword) is the most elegant of the Shaolin weapons; attacks are all hidden inside the elegant movements. The sword moves like a light wind blowing through the trees. This style is now used mainly for entertainment and exercise, and is very popular throughout the country. Main techniques include the thrust, cloud, chop and swing in a figure-8 form.

If Buddhism is non-violent, we must take this to the level of intellectual prowess. If this sword dance represents the sword of truth in its peregrinations against all error, we have a most exquisite expression of the intricacies of argument. Left and Right here are in perfect symmetry. Amazing. Wonderful. I am so grateful to have seen this. It greatly magnifies my comprehension of the capacity of Chinese poetry and tradition to express the profound movements of the intellect of man.

Chinese Kungfu (wushu) has nothing to do with Buddhism. The swordsmanship in the video is Taoist swordsmanship. All Chinese culture is rooted in Taoism and Confucianism. Even Chinese Buddhism has added a large amount of Chinese Taoism and Confucian culture, and the transformed Chinese Buddhism is accepted by the Chinese and conforms to the Chinese philosophy.

@@barbiebarbie1813 Thanks for this. I did not mean to suggest that Buddhism was the inspiration of this wonderful sword dance. My mistake. But, does not Taoism, as the deification of nature, posit the same ultimate fatality as Buddhism? Of course, Confucianism is in another category altogether. I only mean to praise, not to explain. Some in the West would assume a sword dance is an expression of physical technology only intended for the defeat of a physical opponent. I meant to imply that the context of a monastery (Buddhist or Taoist) prohibits this interpretation. Please be patient with those of us from the west for whom eastern culture is so new. I am only so grateful for this glimpse into the refinements of the eastern mind. I am a Christian. The articulation of the rational intellect is the spiritual realm of Christianity and seeing this amazing depiction of it, I cannot be but grateful and in it I am exalted.

@mikelee7798
@mikelee7798 9 жыл бұрын
It's the new style wushu grip. Holding the guard and not the handle makes the sword lighter, but also is impractical with more functional Jian. Such examples include Han style Jian.

+Mike Lee not necessarily. It allows a larger and stronger circle of control and typically the two finger extension if done correctly doesnt extend past the guard but simply holds the guard on the last digit of the fingers. the fingers then slip back to a normal grip when the fight gets close quarters typically.

The techniques are not the problem. The temples current state is. No monks live in the temple. The monks who perform live off "campus". This performer probably knows thousands of forms. In the past a master might know 1 or 2. I personally know 0 forms despite doing kungfu for 22 years. The ones I have been shown I have forgotten with intent. The form is a culmination of mastery and understanding. Not a dance for children. Forms go wasted on those who learn them and those who watch them too! The monks alignment would improve if he was doing weapons sparring. Still other weapon arts like hema for instance seem to totally misunderstand the lethality of a blade. They are playing at fantasy. Often opting to take a cut to get one. Ignoring the fact that plate armor would protect them nomatter the strike. If they were armorless they would both be dead. Hema often ignores the legs as a target and its unarmed combat is lacking. Other sword arts have similar issues. No realistic sparring can be had. As a result this too is unrealistic. That is why the samurai had such excellent grappling. They understood the problem clearly of stabbing or cutting an armored opponent. The chinese are even further off currently due to the invention of gunpowder in china. Armor and swords became less popular in china faster than anyone else. Ironically grappling was popular in the han dynasty due to the use of heavy armor and swords. The bibliographies of the han discuss this lost treasure. It is a shame that the kungfu has gotten so bad. Hema kendo and aikido have not solved these issues either. At least the japanese have rediscovered grappling in the modern era! It is a true shame that so few kungfu practitioners practice realistically

Yeah it does look like dancing but that's how the Chinese like to fence. All those unusual bends, twist, spin, leg lift, crouch, snaps. Are all a training method for parrying, evasion, recovery, and than counter. I recommend rewatching this video and try to imagine him fighting someone. Look for when and where he displaces his body that should tell you what kind of attack he's trying to dodge and than look at how he transitions into a counter attack and where they go. After that you'll see him transition out of the counter back into another evasive stance. Rinse and repeat.

+Mistaa Spaakles Don't bother to explain. This is too heavy for him, he wouldn't understand it. The difference is like a fast food restaurant vs fine dining or average muscle car vs _exotic_ super car.. One is just plain simple while the other are beautiful and complex. I bet this person; +Adam Smith is at the side of "the fast food crowd" who's only understand simple, average or ordinary side of life.. as such, he doesn't have the brain capacity to understand such complex movements..

No No No. Too artsy exhibitionist. Too stylo milo. This is a dance. Too much twirling and spinning around. This is not real life combat fighting. The problem with China in 2020 is there are too many fakes in kungfu. I think the Japanese samurai are more truthful in their combat fighting arts. No one will do high kicks in a real life battle field combat with thousands of soldiers armed with broad swords, swords, spears and axes facing each other. Because a person doing high kicks will likely have his leg chopped off. And in real combat, you never do many fanciful twirls to expose your back to the opponent, This is life and death duel. This is NOT ballet dance.

There are many forms of Chinese martial arts, and the video is a kind of body method. Japanese martial arts is also one of Chinese Kung Fu. Like martial arts such as karate, judo, and Shaolin Temple boxing, ninjutsu is a characteristic martial art gradually developed after it was introduced to Japan from ancient Chinese martial arts. The real ninjutsu is derived from Chinese ninjutsu 忍术, also known as hermit 隐术 (At that time, it was called Five Elements Escape in China).

服部半藏Hattori Hanzo (服部正成 Hattori Masaei) (1542~1596) (a famous ninja in Japan). his surname is Qin, and his ancestral home is Fujian, China. In Japanese history, Hattori Hanzo is a person who cannot fail to mention. The modern American ninja Steve Hayes proposed in " 《伊贺的阴影》Shadow of Iga" that after the decline of the Tang Dynasty, a large number of wandering monks, military commanders, and literati flew to Japan and became the backbone of Japanese society. They also brought Datang's advanced science and technology, culture and art, and various martial arts to Japan. The cornerstone of ninjutsu was laid by these people. Ninjutsu originated from the five elements (五行術) of the Han Dynasty in China and later spread to Japan. "《五遁忍术》Five Eun Ninjutsu" originated from China The fascinating five-element escape technique is derived from ancient Chinese military books, similar to the scenes often seen in movies that suddenly disappear in the smoke

I studied wushu and traditional side by side and I asked a lot of questions about the differences I noticed. The moves were very familiar between them. I noticed the stances in traditional had the toes turned in, while wushu had toes straight ahead. Wushu had more jumping and less upper body movements. From my questions an observations, wushu and traditional kung fu seemed to have different emphasis, different levels of practical application training, however they seemed to be from the same body of moves. They still fit together like lego blocks. Training in both also aids each other, as well as training in tai chi.

In 1950-60's the Chinese communist wanted to get control of the Chinese Kung fu society. They unify many forms to become standard competition forms such as sabers, swords, southern and northern (kuen). In this video what this guy performes. I can tell immediately a fake Shaolin monk.

I am aware of the history. There are no real shaolin monks anymore. It is a sad thing. There is still good traditional shaolin and hung gar and chen tai chi are pretty bad ass. I really like the wudang styles now as well. If I went to china to study, I would go to wudang mountain myself.
