It kinda pisses me off when people write this off as "Stoner shit" And completely ignore the incredible effort that went into doing this. You don't need to be high all the time to appreciate abstract art, try to think outside the box people
@Telephantasssm8 жыл бұрын
It's trippy shit not stoner shit. this show is entirely intended for people to watch while on psychedelics.
@Telephantasssm8 жыл бұрын
Like if you talk to the animators behind this shit I guarantee it was inspired by psychedelics and honestly it's ignorant to even think otherwise.
@alec89048 жыл бұрын
+Telephantasssm I don't use psychedelics and I enjoy Dave Hughes' work very much. Off the air has even encouraged me to learn programs such as AfterEffects and FinalCutPro. People like to associate experimentation with drug usage for some reason. I don't think anyone would have the patience to clip together/edit a video while under the influence of psychedelics. Not saying you're wrong, but this show does not only cater to drug users, believe me. Even my grandmother enjoys off the air lol
@Telephantasssm8 жыл бұрын
That's fine, it's a work of art and you can enjoy it regardless. But the content of these videos is undoubtedly highly influenced by psychedelic visions and experiences. If Dave Hughes hasn't experimented with psychedelics I would be incredibly surprised. The transitions and even many parts of the videos are extremely reminiscent of closed eye visuals under the influence of psychedelics. I just don't believe he would have come up with a lot of these transitions without having some prior experience with those drugs. Obviously he wouldn't have been able to create these videos while under the influence of those drugs, but many artists try to recreate these visuals in paintings and videos.

8:24 - I think they are making a statement of the lack of culture of the youth here. Video games,and over-sexualized depictions of women, plus the subtlety of the sex message (the controller becomes a *pussy*) Pokemon characters being slammed into the burger represent the fast food like effect of the shallow commercialism on your mind. The Hypno Toad from Futurama is torn in half to reveal peace. After being "absorbed" in the television the data is corrupted, which sums up the entire piece. As a child of the 80's and 90's, I got like every reference being machine gunned at us, from He-Man to Pee Wee's Playhouse to Hey Arnold. Awesome little animation.
@nageorgiou28 жыл бұрын
Yeah I think you're right. That last part was definitely a messaged aimed at the little ones of the 80's/90's. This is definitely another subliminal PSA, and probably about the youth. I have two theories on it: 1. Mayhaps it's a massive visual commentary on the 60s-90s. Think about it, the beginning started out mellow, with *shapes* which seemed to be a very popular thing back then, the whole geometric style. Speaking about things as simple as ballerinas twirling. Those little blurs used to transition between segments could be a representation of the lines between generations. Then you get to the 80s and 90s, with the children exploding out of the woman, symbolizing the emphasis they still had on how bad sex is before marriage, and then shit gets fast paced. (Looking back at this, this is jumbled as shit. I had more ideas, but I don't have the time to write them all out.) 2. It's Adult Swim's version of "Dead life". Thats all I got.
