I think that the competitive aspect among many of the stars is just not there. Like you mention the players protection of their brand has reduced the natural competitiveness. It still exists in a rare few of the players and there are coaches that will allow nothing less. Unfortunately players will give up a layup to avoid being in a highlight that would reflect badly on their image. Attitudes in some of the current generation can be seen in Anthony Edwards insisting that he was the Olympic team’s first option, all while coming off of the bench! There is a sense of entitlement present in many of these players making them difficult to be coached and ruining the team chemistry needed for their team to be at their best. It is all about them and not the team. The NBA and the mainstream media play into and promote this on the regular.

@cycleoflife56512 күн бұрын
Officials still allow hand checking to a certain degree. They allow the arm bar even when it is counter to the actual rules. The arm bar is supposed to be allowed when the player with the ball has his back to the defender but the officials very loosely enforce that to the point where it is utilized when a player is driving to the basket. As always certain players are allowed more leeway than others and that applies to both ends of the floor.

Bribing guys who already get paid astronomical amounts of money and only work 7-8 months out of the year in a failing league, with cars and more money to do their job is insane. That’s the problem, they already get too much. The NBA needs to step up to the players union and negotiate non guaranteed contracts. Big contracts that work on a bonus structure and players only receive those bonuses if they play a certain amount of games, make an all star, win a certain amount of games, make the playoffs, win a title, mvp, etc. giving them more will only exacerbate the problem. However, it’s mind boggling you have to incentivize competition and it’s not innate

1. Bring back hand checks and allow the defense to be physical again. There is no defense, so it DOES feel like a contest instead of competition. Just shooters taking shots back and forth. 2. Follow the rules of basketball - call traveling, double dribbles, and carrying. "That's why you can't change the rules - because the rules make it fun!" - Coco (Bluey) 3. Stop throwing technicals for stupid calls. It's a men's league, allow them to flex and talk smack again. It brings out the competition. 4. No more flopping or foul baiting. If players do that, just don't call the foul. 5. Players need to stop complaining. Sometimes refs make mistakes, shut up and keep playing. The whole flow of the game gets ruined when you constantly have players whining over every little thing.

They are making adjustments to get viewership back up and they are increasing. Ppl just aren’t interested in watching guys who get paid so much not out in full effort on both sides of the ball, sit out 25% or more of the season to rest. Dallas vs Warriors game where they set the 3 point record. The game was boring. It was just a 3 point shooting contest with no defense

The player need to be allowed to play defense without being called for a foul on anything.They need to extend the court.Raise the rim and push back the 3 point line.That sounds extreme but I think its time

Pickup games are more fun to watch than the NBA, because they only call fouls when it’s obvious. Makes the game physical

what happened to driving through the lane and finishing strong in the paint through contact and getting 3 points the hard way?
@DefaultHeroEntertainment14 күн бұрын
They've bastardized the rules so badly that they've destroyed the natural competition between the offense and defense. We aren't even watching a sport anymore.

Nobody is talking about how all these active players have podcast during the season. That's just crazy. The game is secondary to these NBA stars, which is part of the problem.

Offensive players were not supposed to be able to dislodge a defender in legal guarding position. O'Neil quite often rammed right through a kegal defender without a foul being called. Setting that aside... Defenses could make almost every three point attempt a low percentage shot. The problem is that the defense would give up a 95+% two point shot, most likely a dunk, every possession.

NBA Playoff Advantage. Giving the winning team a slight edge in the playoffs. For example, the team that wins the All-Star Game could have home-court advantage in a potential Finals matchup between those teams. This would create a tangible reward that impacts the postseason, motivating players to take the game more seriously. A less drastic approach would be to give the winning team’s star players a "wildcard" entry to a future event (like an automatic selection for a future All-NBA team or a position in the MVP race). What do you think?

Instead of the NBA cup give the winners of the All Star game $500,000 and the MVP $1,000,000.

I used to be so excited for NBA games. Now I'll see it for about a minute and then change the channel. And that goes for other sports too. I just can't stay invested in it.

the best part of the nba was driving through the paint, into the lane, and FINISHING amidst contact and through contact. AND1! and this also gave more credit to defense. Where are the grant hills and kobes and jordans and iversons of todays game? they would all compete and drive the lane , and would lead league in steals and points... full court!!!!!!!!

Switch it. Make shots close to the hoop worth 3 and anything outside a certain area worth 2. Reward teams for manufacturing good looks. Bring back physical defense, too.

Dunking worth three points and behind the arc worth one point.

The problem is ... too many shots being taken ... not enough plays happening ... no defensive strategy ... players don't have to worry about making it

Derrick Rose was supposed to be the new age of NBA talent still thriving off dunks, driving the lane and creating ur own space for clutch shots..after his career derailed around 2013-2014, curry inspired everyone to be like him. In which NOBODY is

I got me a blue Orlando 32 jersey when I was a kid. 1st jersey and bout ran away to get it. Ripped one rim down. Tore another whole goal down cuz the pole was rusted. Lowered goal of course. My buddy across the street loved some Hakeem... every day Shaq vs. The Dream in the driveway. These kids out here playing horse today.

Sports betting is ruining the game as well. People are rooting for both teams sometimes because they got multi bets. Like they not even watching the flow of the game just waiting for the score or stat line to show up. People watching basketball for that reason is slowly ruining the game, but espn and basketball analysts can’t talk about that because they owned by them 😂
@ZITRO2NICE8 күн бұрын
It’s analytics, the team decision makers are implementing this play style to the detriment of the traditional game. Owners want to win and they will take any edge they can get. Now we’ve reached parody.

Think about it, the age all these guys in the league picked up and shot their first basketball was the same time steph curry and klay thompson started taking over from deep.
