Zo is my all-time favorite center. I became a fan because he was all hard work and discipline, and he became one of the best as an undersized center, which is truly inspiring. Followed him to Miami and became a Heat fan to this day. I was really happy for him when he finally won a ring with Heat after the recovery from his kidney condition.

Same here bro. I was late to basketball. I started watching regularly when I was like 12 or 13 (92/93), so I was immediately drawn to MJ as my favorite player as he was the biggest star. But it wasn’t until Jordan’s first retirement where I started watching other players and discovering who I really liked. Then I saw the highlight of Zo hitting the game winner vs the Celtics in the 1st round of the 93 playoffs. I had no clue who he was. I thought he was a seasoned veteran SG or SF, lol. But then I started following him and watching Hornets games and became a life long fan. Followed him to Miami and felt that he was going to win a ‘ship soon. I was devastated when he was diagnosed with the disease and had to retire. I was elated when he made a comeback. He had a brief stint with the Nets and would eventually find his way back to Miami. I was extremely happy for him that he finally won the ring that he definitely earned. And to this day, although I wasn’t a big fan of his, I am grateful that Shaq was a part of Miami at the time because they may not have even been in that position without Shaq a part of the team.

As a Georgetown fan born and raised in D.C., I was blessed to watch all the great centers during that era; Ewing, Mutombo (R.I.P.), Mourning, and Othella Harrington. Watching them dominate live during home games at the old Capital Centre was life as a young teen.

I worked for a Sports Memorabilia company that hosted a meet, and greet with Alonzo shortly after winning his Chip with the Heat at the Aventura Mall in South FL. Before I met Zo I always heard the rumors of how he didn't interact with fans. A reputation of not wanting to sign stuff which had fans thinking twice about asking for an autograph, similar to P. Ewing who 100% didn't like to sign. I have to say not only was he the total opposite of what that false narrative was, but my lasting impression of him is of how good of a father he is. I got to meet his family who he brought to the event, and he was very attentive to the first fan in line, all the same to the very last person. He never missed a step through the event in keeping tabs with his family, and I wish I could share the pic we took at the end of the event. A Class Act when it comes to just being a good person, and he's done so much for the Community, and in bringing awareness to important causes like his late brother the Great Dikembe Mutombo. Thank You Zo, and my Condolences.

Two of the greatest to ever lace them up, and this is how we should be with each other. How can you really hate someone over a game especially when your playing days are over. Keep up the great work guys because you people are looking at you and how you carry yourself. You can be a great role model and lift young kids up or tear them down by what they see and hear about what you do.

I had long respected the Miami Heat when they had Tim Hardaway and Zo. But I officially became a diehard fan when they drafted D Wade in 2003. But with my favorite player of all time being Shaq, when he went to South Beach, I almost lost my mind. What tops those emotions was when Pat Riley resigned Mourning to pair him with Shaq. I knew there would be immense success. To this day I still feel that the 2006 Heat was the best roster I’ve ever seen on paper and on the floor. G Jason Williams G Dwyane Wade F Antoine Walker F Udonis Haslem C Shaquille O’Neal G Gary Payton G Derek Anderson F James Posey F Michael Doleac C Alonzo Mourning G Dorrell Wright F Jason Kapono F Wayne Simeon F Shandon Anderson C Earl Barron

@tyronevaldez-kruger5313Ай бұрын
That's true but he wouldn't be if the NBA hadn't changed the rules and as consequence the post play as well. Especially Europeans like Jokic and Luka benefit from it, they pass the ball with ease and it looks a friendly game against a clumsy defense. Young Kevin Garnett wouldn't play that shit around 20 years ago. Not to mention young Shaq in the zone

Stop with the whole “what nba players today could play with us back then?” People adapt with the times. Yesterday’s players could adapt to today and vice versa. The players play the way they do today bc of the league and rule changes. Also analytics showing that the only shots worth taking are layups/ dunks and 3’s. Most players could play in either era, if they were in that era
