Sharda Classic restaurant, Fatorda, Margao, South Goa, May 2024

Hi guys! Today, Maria and I are going in our own local area, to Fatorda in Margao because one of our viewers / @sophianoronha decided to treat us to a meal at Sharda Classic, which is an old favourite among Margaokars.
It’s a place really known for its fantastic Goan fish and seafood. So that’s what we’re looking forward to eating today thanks to Sophia!

Sharda Classic is located close to Fatorda Stadium in Margao, South Goa. Take the Ponda road from Margao’s clock tower circle, towards Fatorda. At Dambab circle, turn left towards Fatorda stadium. At the first traffic signal after the stadium, turn right on the road to Murida. Soon after turning right you can see Sharda Classic ahead on the right. First comes the older Sharda Bar and Restaurant on the left. On the opposite side is Sharda Classic, where we are going today. After the restaurant, there is a parking lot. This place is very popular. Must go early to be sure of a table.

Sharda Classic started off as a bar, serving maada (coconut) feni, urac, alem (ginger feni), jeerem (cumin flavoured feni), cashew feni, in 1952 in the Portuguese time. Then in 1994 they opened Sharda Bar in Fatorda. And then they opened in Panjim and then in Aquem, Margao.
Today we're having special chonak fish thali, regular prawns thali, mutton sukha and xinaneo (mussels) rawa fry.
Actually Sharda is so famous and we have come here so often that it didn’t occur to us to cover it in a vlog till one of our viewers Sophia Noronha specially requested it. Your old favourites, sometimes you forget to cover them. Over the years the seafood here has just been spectacular. And our kids also love to come here because they have this amazing brownie dessert. Though we are going to have the Goan desserts today
First to arrive are the xinaneos rawa fry. Perfect crispiness.
Let’s see what all Sharda's special chonak thali has: prawns, chonak, leppo, kharem (dried salted mackerel), prawn curry with drumstick, dry prawn kismur, prawn xacuti, salad, sal kari, pickle, fruit custard, teesrio sukka, tendlim (ivy gourd) bhaji, 1 chapati and rice
Maria’s regular prawn thali has curry, tendlim, teesrio, salad, sal kari, pickle, rice and rawa fried prawns
Likes: prawn xacuti, tendlim bhaji, xinaneo, teesrio, mutton sukka, tender coconut pudding
Dislikes: rawa fried prawns and rawa fried chonak
Just okay: prawn curry, leppo fry

Thank you for doing this video! It’s been 2 years since we visited Sharda. We used to go for Thali every Wednesday. I think they have grown rapidly and you are so right just like Ritz; who funny enough recently expanded the Benaulim location. Both restaurants have more tourists, which explains the prices lol. Hello Lesley, we started watching your channel couple of months ago, we live in US but are born and brought up in Mumbai. I have visited Goa (mostly South Goa) during my school summer vacations as my mum's family had roots there before moving to Mumbai. My mum and her sisters had friends just like yours, you guys remind of the good old days. Goan food is the best in the world! You are doing a great job of showcasing the local flavors of Goa. Me and my 8 year old son watch your videos with delight, he loves seafood! We are visiting India for his summer vacation and will be coming to Majorda for a trip. I hope I see you shooting your video in some restaurant while we are there 😄

Hello @Lesleyingoa It was a pleasant surprise to meet Maria & Jaya at Benaulim Beach (although we missed meeting you). We love watching your vlogs & wait for your videos & recommendations. Few of the places which we found worth mentioning & visiting again were Cota Cozinha (Sarpotel, Crab Xec Xec & Pork Chops) & Robin's Ark (Steak). But for us Goa peaked at "Little Banana", Benaulim. This humble place epitomises Goan food, vibes and culture. The view of the Church, Portugese houses, the shack set up, love for football, reasonable yet yummy food, lovely people is what defines Goa and Little Banana perfectly portrays all of it. Please introduce these places to the wider audience as we would love to watch you guys relish their food.

Very true, Peter. In some ways for better, like Zuari bridge, but in too many ways for worse. Lot of uncleanliness and garbage in Goa now, especially in the cities

It’s a digestive drink made with dried kokum petals

@@lesleyingoa petals or fruit, just looked it up and it is like prunes or tamarind, is it sour or sweet.

it is the skin of the kokum fruit. the dried skins are called petals because of their shape and colour after drying. it's very sour but also has a distinct flavour for which there is no substitute

Hi Lesley, wanted to recommend this really great place in Margao called "Longuinhos" It's an old place around 73 years old but the good is awesome... We had beef steak, Pork sorpatel, and Hadmas.... It was "Heavenly" as you would call it... Hoping to see you in your next video here.
