Totally agree w your take on the new direction the modeling industry is headed in. It’s weird what they’re trying to do now. Like I’m 5’3 and therefore I don’t expect to be a pro basketball player lol…same logic applies to every career. Not everyone is cut out for everything and that’s OK!

Completely agree on your opinion about proportions and art in modelling! Thank you for being so open and honest about it, Vita, many people wouldn't dare speak directly about this. I'm not a model, therefore I might not have the insight but my amazing grandma was a model for a while in her youth and she talks about her experiences and jobs a lot. Modelling is hard work, not just the 10-hour shoot days in all kinds of conditions (shooting a bikini campaign in February, etc.), but keeping your body fit, healthy, glowing is also a big task. I think there's no need for comparison in the 1st place but I can't really put some of the models working nowadays and models from 10-15 years ago on the same shelf. It's hard work like any other profession and I can't justify lowering the standards just so that many others girls can fit the criteria. We have to accept it, just like not everyone could be a neurosurgeon or Supreme Court judge, also not every one of us could be a model.

Before, beauty was found all over the world and had energy. Now agencies and clients seek after influencers who lack the artistic element you mentioned. nothing could top the OG angel era VS.

Even scientific studies support that the ideal aesthetic to humans is ideal proportions and symmetry. I 100% agree that not everyone can be a model nor should they be. I always thought of the VS models as athletes and the whole show was an art form.

There is also a practical side for standards for model size. Making sample garments is a huge investment and time consuming for companies. That is why some kind of sample size standard is needed, so that samples do not have to be made especially for someone. Another discussion is what that size should be. As a designer I do not think, that the smaller the better. My personal view is that I would like to see more diverse age representation of beautiful interesting looking people in fashion.

I’ve got mixed feelings about modeling standards. I agree w/U that this job is not for everyone. But girls and women all over the world compare themselves with leggy slim models and it leads to mental problems. And no one still find the balance. And only few models have the real uniqueness and they are known all over the world. Other ones just have slim body from mother nature, good metabolism and strength of will to exercise and eat healthy

I also have mixed feelings about modeling standards. I totally agree about fashion being art and that it requires an uniqueness and spark from side of the model. But what do you mean by proportions have to be right? Isn’t it the way we were socialized and the beauty standards were cultivated over the last years telling us to define some proportions as not beautiful? I interpreted your statement as the fact that nowadays also influencers (who can do a great job!) are getting modeling jobs, leaving me think that they might not be right for this exact job. I also saw so many skinny models being absolutely boring and just getting the job for getting into a size zero when the fashion world was ‘traditional’. What is more encouraging and beautiful than booking an interesting radiance personality over a fade unhealthy model? Maybe I understood you wrong, just wanted to put out there because I see so many comments about it.
