September 27 - Shared Belief was forced wide every step of the way, the heavy favorite Shared remained unbeaten in his seven starts with the toughest and closest win of his career over a game Fed Biz in the $300,000 Awesome Again Stakes at Santa Anita Park. Next up the $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic (gr. I) Nov. 1 at Santa Anita. Shared Belief will be the favorite and his celebrity owner Jim Rome will be there to cheer him on in America's richest race and a likely Horse of the Year award that would come with a victory.

Shared Belief will forever be my favourite America dirt horse.. He was a true champion, I don't think many ever had a heart like him.. he was the Hurricane Fly of Dirt racing.. such a battler who made ground on the far turn and seemed to have no limit to what he was capable of.. he would have won the BC Classic on any other day and I believe the success of California Chrome is further testament to the greatness (and potential) of Shared Belief.. may he rest in peace in the Heavenly Kingdom

Well, few days after the BC and I think shared belief and chrome did well. My opinion still: there where not overrated. According to trakus race data, both had that fastest speed throughout the race in relation to the distance they covered. Hmmmm.....

Shared Belief has come on the scene with a bang alright.. but I'm not sure he's quite good enough to handle a super tough race like the Classic.. he always seems to get outpaced, but then like they said, he does find another gear at the right time.. I think a peak Chrome can definitely beat Shated Belief.. Would he have reeled Bayern in, in the PA derby? He hasn't proved himself on that level yet.. When it comes to the more held-up horses, he probably has Tonalist covered.. but the one everyone is definitely overlooking is Toast Of New York.. how often do horses who are just under the radar win the big ones.. 14/1 looks pretty tasty..

steven cooke haha thanks bro, I suppose I did.. but I must admit, I didn't win a penny as I pinned all my hopes on California Chrome.. It was an awesome race though, but I still wish Bayern never cannon balled Shared Belief at the start of the race :P ..However, in the mind of the fans, I think Shared Belief will still go down as the best Champion of them all :)

I used to ride him in the morning when he was a two year old at golden gate , cc doesn't have a chance against him And EVERYBODY in horse racing knows this horse is the real deal ,candy man and bayerns connections were interviewed after te pen derby and they said they left there home turf to run in the pen derby because they had a better chance running there than against shared belief

A bunch of average horses, especially Shared Belief. This horse reminds me the horse: Looking at Lucky. He was good around average horses but failed short when competing with the good ones. Yes, he is overrated.

Just by a head? What about the fact that he was pushed 5 wide early in the race? If that wasn't a tough trip, I don't know what is. And CC a disappointment? Why do people always expect out of this world performances in each and every race of 3 year olds? In his last race, CC was the only one with a longer lay off. Bayern, 10th I believe in the previous race, ran the race of his young life and broke the track record. Is he a disappointment, too? Again: only 10th in race before. Let's wait what CC does at the breeders cup and then let's call him a disappointment. Or maybe not...

Billy Brownstar My lame friend, are you writing to me or just having a bad day? I am also disappointed that we don’t have a Zenyatta or a Dr. Fager or a Citation or a Man o’ War; but I am grounded to reality. It is easy to call someone dumb or clueless when we are looking at our limitation in front of a mirror. Are you? I promise I will continue learning about horse racing; but the facts are the same: nowadays horse racing is not about machine horses, it is about breeding horses tricks, pedigrees, sales and money, genuine horseman are no longer in charge. Check the upcoming list of contenders for the BC classic. Do you see any Ghostzapper, AP Indy, Sunday Silence, Tiznow or better, a Count Fleet, Citation, Affirmed…. It is all about making a name for a horse to capitalize in the breeding field and make money. This race can be won by any of those contenders because they are average in general. My pick, I would say: Tonalist, Bayern, Medal Count and Toast of New York. I might add Shared Belief; but is more ordinary than the rest of the contenders for this distance. Although, honestly, this whole race lacks of real good contenders, is no exciting, thrilling and should be canceled for being a boring and dull event. We deserve better.
