I took a small beautifull part of an Ali documentary...

I remember meeting him in 1990 in a hotel lobby in Chicago. I was just a white kid that didn't stand out in any crowd and he was the center of everyone's attention. He noticed me and put on his "levitation" magic trick for me. In that moment, for some reason, all that mattered to him was to put a smile on my face. I was his entire audience in that crowd. That was when I saw the real face of Mohammed Ali - a big kid with a soft spot for kids of all races. I have respected him ever since.

Fun fact; there was a time Frazier believed Ali deserved it. He was bitter over all the smack Ali talked and how he would get the black community to hate Frazier and called him a "white man's champion" or "uncle tom". Frazier's kids use to get bullied at school over it. The two didn't really speak much after all that. Occasionally one would try to apologize to the other but it never went anywhere. When Frazier died, Ali was one of the few people who attended the funeral.
@selenapresly14913 жыл бұрын
@@1979mirza there was plenty of people at joe Frazier’s funeral. Yes Joe had deep resentment for what ali said but ultimately he forgave him and thats all that matters.

Ali had a tough time FRAZIER was the hardest, toughest, he never meant to hurt him ,he was the only hard opponent ALI COILD NOT HANDLE, HE ALWAYS SAID FRAZIER WAS THE HARDEST. God bless you guys,
@PA-wt2ul2 жыл бұрын
@@mr.berardine1694 Actually it did go somewhere. Frazier was bitter with Ali until he apologised one on one. Ali used to send invitations to Frazier or apologise publicly and Frazier wasnt buying it. He felt that an apology had to be made in Philadelphia, why? coz Ali had relocated to Philadelphia before the fight of the century and started turning some of the local black community against Frazier. Frazier was furious since it was happening in his beloved city. He and his family had to be escorted by police before each of their three bouts and that was why he could not forgive Ali. The 2002 NBA all star game was thankfully held in Philadelphia. The night before the finals, Ali invited Frazier to his hotel room. Finally the apology was coming in his territory so Frazier accepted it. It was then that Frazier saw Ali's condition from up close. They both cried and joked. Before leaving, they all prayed. Frazier led the prayers for Ali's medical conditions. That was the end of the bitterness.

These older warriors. They hit each other. Tried to knock each other out. Now, after all those glory years are over, they stand up for each other. Ali fought the absolute best fighters of his day. Looking at this video, we can see that several of his opponents looked up to him - even while they fought him. Especially the black fighters. Holmes cried after his fight with Ali...probably because he loved him as a person, his legacy as a fighter, and most importantly, what he did for black people everywhere. Beating Ali at the end of his career was very rough for him. Berbick, right after his fight with Ali, told him he loved him, over and over again. As much as Ali talked, he was actually a humble man. You could tell that when he lost. He truly was "The Greatest." Not just as a boxer alone, but as a man who used his position to prop up an entire ethnic group. A man of principle who was willing to give everything up for what he believed. He was a role model.

Touching excellent the "never feel sorry for me" ( i offer up a personal tale of why i loved this guy) i was 19 when i saw this guy cassius clay shout " i am the greatest", and it wowed me, this goldilocks( blue-eyed i happened to born, watching this black youth shout out "i am the greatest", it was so refreshing, i myself was young brash and cocky, and i was what be damned by racist as a "N/lover", yes that was what it was like in 1960, but i had a mother who when we were in charleston , south carolina, 1950(1950s deep south, anyone that studies history know what charleston, south carolina was in 1950), and i had a paternal grandfather, that it it seemed every other word he said was the N word and i burned in hatred and rage at this ugly mean vile racist, and then a great moment in my life, my mother took me aside, and this white mom, in 1950, took me aside and said something i heard for the first time in my life, she said "Billy, sometime white people will come to know black is beautiful" and i said "yes, mom, yes" So i flash back to this 19 year old, soon to be a radical activist, and realize that moment when the the future Muhammad Ali said i am the greatest, was a key, a pivotal moment , moment in american history , and that youth went on from there and proves he was the greatest, and then to be stricken, with disease, yet, with such grace and dignity he managed to live, and show us another kind of greatness. So now he is gone missing into the other side, from parkinson's disease released and i tear up, as think back to the cocky brash athlete i was looking at this 18 year old that in the that thrilling me with his attitude, as i always knew a great heart was beneath that attitude, a man that had me shout "right -On!!!" when he refused to serve in a country's army killing vietnamese in the millions, and saying, i will not participate in a wrong war, i have nothing against vietnamese, what have they ever done to hurt me, or america. And he was damned by the goverment, and scorned by the multitudes of those believe the idiocy, of my country "right or WRONG", such as Joe Frazier did, Frazier a major supporter of the Vietnam War as Ali stood his ground, suffering the consequences of his convictions about the war/ that was greatness. i was working in the 30th street station post office in PHILLY at that time, Ali having been stripped of his crown, banned from boxing and almost sent to prison, as Frazier got the Crown awarded to him, without a fight with Ali. i can affirm that in Frazier's own black community, in the majority supported Ali in his verbal war with Frazier, Ali calling him a slave to the system, i think he even called him "A House N_"(or did he just say a "House Boy"?) These were VOLATILE times, times that many have no memory of because they were not even born yet, but for me i relive them vividly/intensely, in the wake Muhammad Ali's death. i am now 75, and battling the cruel disease of Parkinson's. Peace

Always worth paying love and respect to legends like them. There's a lot of fighters over the years that wont be remembered but some will be. Fighters like these legends will always and forever live on. We wouldn't be anywhere if it wasn't for them and that also goes back to Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano, Sugar Ray Robinson and so many of them at that time up to these greats. How can anyone claim they are better then them? Unless if these legends say "you were greater then me." Or if you prove it. Honestly I wouldn't be able to accept that cause they were so great and for a reason..LEGENDARY. GOD BLESS THEM ALL.

I always thought that this was the best sequence form the documentary "Facing Ali.' It showed that -- contrary to the gross lies told in another documentary "Thrilia in Manila", which was terrible journalism and revisionist propaganda -- deep down Frazier truly loved Ali. Although Frazier did take much of Ali's taunts personally, maybe too much so, he did adore his one time nemesis and I'm sure Ali felt the same about him.

Muhammad was one of those people that worked so hard, that even in death, his legacy will live on for centuries. All that time working out, fighting for civil rights, didn't just help him and the black community back in the 60's and 70's, but for the rest of history to come. Thats one of the many benefits people don't think about when it comes to hard work. R.I.P Muhammad Ali.
