It's usually a fun day fishing Penns Creek, but much more fun with a friend. Although my buddy Jeff from Trout Strike has been a KZbin colleague of mine for several years, and has corresponded back and forth many times, we have never fished together, until now. Come along with us as we share a whole day on Penns , going from nymphing to dries, back to nymphing then back to dries.

Hey Scott! Very cool to get to see that day through your perpective! Thanks again for joining me on Penns! It was a lot of fun to have the opportunity to fish with you! I wish my camera would have lasted the full day. I would have loved to have footage of our dry fly action!! Hoping to see you next week on the Delaware!

Like watching a hunting show part of the time accept going for the dry fly bite!! Nice! The quiteness of the river is good stuff! Looks like that section has stockies and wilds. Thx for sharing Scott! Tightlines

Hey Craig! Yes, the second spot has both stockies and wilds, but the first spot is all wilds. Ha, you know Penns “is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re going to get inside”, dries, nymphing, emergers, terrestrials, streamers….. but that’s the fun part! Appreciate you watching and commenting.

Hey Scott!! How have you been? I recently ran into the same problem with foul hooking some fish with a triple tandem rig that was about 3 foot long. I could clearly see a pod of about 5 to 7 fish and throw up ahead of them. As my rig passed through them, only on hand opened his mouth to eat, but all of the others flinched as if they were going to scatter. The fish that tried to eat my fly missed it however, one of the others that moved abruptly had gotten foul hooked on one of the other flies. I the switch over to a two tandem rig and caught plenty of fish with far less foul hooked fish. I do think that the odds of foul hooking a fish does increase when using a triple tandem rig especially when being drifted through a pod of fish. I very well could be wrong but who knows? Another great video and a job well done! God bless you all.✝️

Good morning Mike! Well, I can’t agree or disagree, I have plenty experience with trying that approach, plus that’s all my buddy Ryan fishes is a two fly tandem rig and his foul hookups are just as common. I just accept it as part of nymphing but I also get a fair share fishing dries too, go figure! Thanks for watching and commenting.

Thanks Scott, I appreciate the video. Looks like you had a great flow. This hot weather has pretty much shut me down for Trout, hoping to get backup to the upper Delaware for some cold water.

Hi Michael! Yes, luckily this video was from two weeks ago. Now sticking to the tailwaters, but there are a few streams that are still fishable, just gotta be smart and keep aware of the water temps. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Awesome stuff, Scott. Love your Penns videos, and how you start picking apart runs as soon as your boots touch the water. A great lesson. You’re probably like us in VA right now and stuck in the middle of the crazy heat…time to watch the temps. I had a chance to fish a tailwater last week for Father’s Day in southern VA for the first time and had an epic day (and chilly water in the 50’s 🥶). Next month is a Montana trip - let’s go! - Chris

As always awesome fish.would you be able to do a tying video on your blue perdigon for us?. Thanks as always
@pawoodsnwater7551
@pawoodsnwater7551 Ай бұрын
Well, perdigons are pretty straight forward and simple. I use either size 16 or 18 hooks, a CDL tail, a medium to light blue shiny tinsel, and a peacock herl collar, with either a 3/32 or 7/64 gold or silver tungsten bead, I also use a UV blue thread, you can use a Globrite blue thread but hard to keep it thin to keep the body skinny. There’s a bunch of different body materials out there for that color blue tinsel. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Good morning buddy! Yessir, it’s gonna be hot out there, see get hydrated and wear sunscreen and a hat. The water closer to the tailwater’s dam is always a good summer location, still check those water temps. Good luck and have fun and be safe.

Hey Scott, enjoy all of your video as always! Still using the Cutthroat nymphing leader? Do you have to treat the leader when switching to dry flies? Ever try the Cutthroat dry fly leader? Guess you couldn’t go back and forth between nymphing and dries with it.
@pawoodsnwater7551
@pawoodsnwater7551 22 күн бұрын
Hello Linda! Oh yes you can! That’s exactly what I do. I use the Cutthroat 50” Shorty dry fly leader just as my butt section of my overall leader length, then I add 5ft of 4x Flouro, then my tandem rig for nymphing. When I’m ready to switch over to dries, I just cut off my tandem rig as a whole, save it for later, then add another 3ft of 5x or 6x then my dry fly, if I’m using 7x or 8x I’ll add a small section of 6x after the long 4x section to build it down, I’ll only build down my leader no more than two sizes per section. As far as treating my furled leader, most times when I’m nymphing and switch over to dries I don’t pretreat it, but if I’m mostly using dries for the day I will pretreat it before the leader gets wet at the start of my day. Honestly, either way, I’ve never noticed a big difference in my presentation whether it’s treated or not, as you can see in the videos. Appreciate you watching and commenting.

Not to divulge any spot secrets Scott but what portion of Penns Creek is this? Before or after the Township? This looks like a great place for my and a college friend to enjoy a day of fishing. Thanks.

Hi Steve! I break Penns into three parts: the upper area is around Coburn, the middle area is from Inglesby down to Cherry Run, the lower area from Cherry Run down to Glen Iron, this was from the lower section. Please be careful of water temps lately, Penns really has been too hot since this heatwave to fish If we get some good rain it may help but we need rain bad! Hope this helps. Thanks for watching and commenting.
