Enjoy it? I absolutely LOVED your experimentation! The use of light and darks along with texture are without question my favorite part of art. I thought the use of the Fineliner Masking Fluid was brilliant and wishing I had thought of it, as I started as a watercolor artist. Anyway... I completely agree about the rice paper pieces being the favorites! A little tip just in case you didn't know, they do make a little square shaped masking fluid eraser that makes removing the glue residue quite easy. Not sure it would work on the rice paper after the heat of the wax seemingly bonded the masking fluid to it, but wanted to at least mention the product for possible future uses. Thank you Shari! You have made my rather recent foray into encaustic the most exciting process with all of your wonderfully creative "Wax on Wednesdays!" I'm completely addicted to this medium and you have definitely made the process so much more enjoyable with all of your shared creativity! xxx

What a great video highlighting how we can just play and experiment, and I loved how that frustrating piece turned in to a favourite! Thank you, Shari!

Thanks Micki ! That happens a lot . I think the key is to just keep going and paint until you're happy !

As a watercolor artist, I can attest that masking fluid can be the Bain of existence if you don’t know all of its quirks. Never apply heat, always use on a sized paper only, don’t leave more than a day or so. With that said, it came out lovely 🌷

Love this specially the rice paper ,,,,,,did you use wax pastels and crayons ? Thank you 🙏
Its always such a pleasure seeing your creative process! L😍Ve it! -Should you continue using masking fluid: A rubber cement pick-up eraser does wonders to help pull up that tricky &sticky masking fluid. Which helps lessen the smear factor from using your fingers, or potentially ripping/tearing the paper delicate paper underneath.
@ShariReplogle7 жыл бұрын
Thank you Chris ! And, thanks so much for the tip I will definitely try that :) The ones that spent the most time being painted directly on the hotplate the fluid is solidly baked onto ( or into )the paper , but that would be great on the all of the rest of them !

oh just found you and loving your work! I love rice paper and mulberry paper so can't wait to try these experiments! Are there any other type of things to use on paper to provide interesting texture? Thank you so very much - just began my encaustic journey a few weeks ago so I am eager to explore all possibilities - I also want to use my hand dyed and eco printed silks (tried a little but not quite there yet)

They came out amazing and a great study too, finding out what works and what doesnt. So what do you do with these wonderful sheets? Do you rip them up to include in another encaustic artpiece or just enjoy them as is? I dont think i could rip them up, id be heartbroken! Lol. XTibbyX
@ShariReplogle7 жыл бұрын
Thank you ! There are so many things you can do with these wonderful encaustic sheets ! You can frame them like I did with the ones from last week's video , mount them on board , or yes put them in a journal or collage :)

Does it have to be pan pastels? Do you think soft pastels would work? I don't have pan pastels and they're very expensive where I live.

Love these. What's that black glob you use?
@joyamuedo58207 жыл бұрын
Ok dang it! I'm going to have to have one of those heated palettes! I'm scheming on how I could make one with a cookie sheet or thin sheet of stainless steel. I'm sure they're pricey. Wishing for a play date with you!!!

HAHA Joy I hope you give this a go ! They have an anodized aluminum plate you can put right over your griddle that Encaustikos makes . That is the one I work with in "Encausticology Paper Journey" online Workshop and it works great :)

Urgent question Shari! How do you stop this stuff from blobbing in beads??
@ShariReplogle7 жыл бұрын
What brand are you using and does it have a fine tip applicator ? I don't put very much pressure on the bottle and I keep the applicator slightly touching the paper in steady strokes . If I stopped or hesitated it might get slightly thicker in that area .
@Pottymoon7 жыл бұрын
Lovely, Shari, as always! And thank you for some decent music (so many vids on KZbin are sooo monotonous and repetitive I have to mute!!) x
@GrammyTweety7 жыл бұрын
Does it have to be rice paper, at least to practice. I've seen it on wood as well.
@ShariReplogle7 жыл бұрын
Hi Sharon , Most of my encaustic paintings are done on wood, but the paper studies are to show the diversity of encaustic and all that you can do with it :)
