In the 4th rack, if you had left the 8 ball on the table, you might've been able to cut the 7 ball a little more, to carom it into the side pocket, off the 8 ball, thereby freeing up the 8 ball. Hard to tell if the 8 ball was close enough to the side pocket, from the camera angle, however. Nice shooting!

Your scoring is similar to Inside Pool’s method several years ago. It was called “99”. 9 racks with 11 pts max per rack. 2 pts for one or more balls on the break, BIH, 1 pt/ball made, early legal 9 ball gives 9 pts. Inside Pool even provided software to track one’s score. I got in the high 60s, with a one game high score of 87. According to IP, pro level is consistent high 80s.

Well, I got 86 on my first attempt. I was feeling great at 80 after the first 4 racks where I broke and ran the first 4 without taking ball in hand. On the 5th rack I also decided not to take ball in hand and I snookered myself behind the 7 from the 4 to the 5 on a finesse shot (I had made the 8 on the break).

I'm not sure I understand the rules really. Is the very minimum you can get per rack 9 points? Eventually you'll sink every ball, no matter if you do a hundred ball in hands and twice as many misses. So you can never get lower than 45 as a total of 5 racks?
@Sharivari
@Sharivari 9 ай бұрын
The very minimum you can get per rack is zero points. Each ball counts as one. If you don't make a ball on the break and miss the first shot the rack is over with zero balls made.

I asked the same question and still no reply. It matters a lot for the scoring. For now I'm just counting an early 9 as a run out but that doesnt seem to track skill level very well and puts too much luck into the numbers. For instance making the 9 on the break and getting a 20 score for that rack is mainly luck and means nothing for tracking ball running ability.

@@Sharivari doh! I should had looked at the description! So to clarify, an early 9 doubles the current rack points? Like if the 9 was your 4th ball made in the rack you'd get 8 points for the rack? Or is it scoring the full 18 or 20 depending on whether you took ball in hand.
@Sharivari

There's many drills and ways to practice. Playing the ghost in 9 ball taking ball in hand is simply one of them. Sure you could instead not take ball in hand and play safe when you don't have an opening shot, but that's not the point of this particular drill. This is purely a pattern playing drill with a scoring system that allows you to track your progress.
