There's something really interesting about shark attacks. Just the thought of being eaten alive like some people have been, so creepy.

@@JamesBaylockJr Same, when my dad would take me fishing, I'd never let him take the boat into the dark water because I was scared there'd be sharks (there would have been lol). I'm terrified of them but they're fascinating.

Stats are based on “ beach goers?” Why don’t they do stats based on just surfers? Is that possible?

There are hundreds of millions of people that go to beaches each year so its not wrong to still use their current estimates.

I agree, there's a significant amount of people who don't go to beaches. The figures would be much higher if it was based on beach goers.

I remember watching a show and a surfer from South Africa was the victim of 3 separate shark bites. Interestingly, he peed in his wetsuit and believes his irons attracted the sharks as his urine obviously doesn’t escape the wetsuit material. They studied the make-up of his urine as well as the colour of his board

Kind of silly to try to psychoanalyze a shark. But that's how these green heads make their money. What they're leaving out of their equation is the probability of being bitten by a shark if you keep swimming in the same place where you were bitten before!

It's not hard to avoid a shark attack... The only shark that attacks people on land is from SUICIDE SQUAD 😂.... Same thing is .. if you don't want to get burned don't play with fire 😂

No, if surfers want to avoid an attack from a shark don’t wear dark clothing a.k.a black, don’t go at dawn & get out by dust fall. These periods are their feeding time.

Did you even watch? There’s a 1 and 9 trillion chance it would happen again. It’s more foolish to be afraid for the rest of your life given the minuscule chance you have it happens again.

Fear and caution are two different things. There’s been four shark-bites in Fla this past month. How rare can an event be if it can happen four times in thirty days? I have a family that depends on me, including cats. I have a lot of loved-ones who would suffer if I died. Do I love ocean-based activities enough to risk my life, physical integrity and the heartbreak of so many ? No. So I don’t go. That’s called “caution”. If somebody else loves their time in the ocean enough to risk all of that, that’s on them. We all have the right to make an informed decision. And we all have the right to judge each other for our decisions. But please stop thinking that fear is the opposite of acceptance… Nobody here is afraid Just informed and just making informed decisions

Being bitten twice - it's easy. Statistically, the chance of actually getting a shark bite, as divided by every person on the planet, is minute. When you apply the number of shark bites to people who spend a lot of their time on/in the water, surfing or swimming, the likelihood is higher for that group. If you are a regular at beaches that have had regular incidents with sharks biting people - you might get bitten twice. It is so sad what has become of national geographic, discovery and the like. They used to have great documentaries, where you could actually learn something. And they used to be able to apply statistical methods...now, it's just fear mongering.

Territoriality, the rut, hunger, disorientation, mistake, tired, diseased, too young, too old. These are all possible reasons for an attack. Given how rare attacks on humans are, these rare reasons seem likely to me. We know when we hear hoofbeays, we shouldn’t think “Zebras!”, we should think horses. Except given the huge numbers of peaceful encounters... attacks ARE the cases of zebras. When you see the commonality of human-shark proximity encounters off the shore of California via his drone footage... you realize attacks are very rare indeed. Oh. And protecting the young of the species is another common attack on humans trigger. Sharks seem to lack this trigger, merely using different swimming grounds to separate age ranges of sharks, instead of having a protective parent hovering over the young.

The thing with odds isnt that if it happens once theres a lower possibility it happens again. If theres a 1 in 3 million chance of you being bitten and it happens. Then the next time you get in the odds reset and its the same as it was the first time. Not any less or more.

Love the conclusion . They love surfing so much they go in when there is tons of bait fish around and they have seen sharks. That basically translates to surfers are dumb and crazy. 🤣They needed an expert to come up with that and then state that as the reason?
