@SirCraigius

@@BuzzingGoober Really? At current value, copper ore is worth 9,691.50 USD per ton. He said there was 1200 tons of ore in the cargo hold, made up of copper, silver and gold. Even if it was 1200 of copper alone, that's $11,629,800! Considering he was only asking for $250,000 for a 25% stake, they'd walk away from the deal making a good profit. I admit its all predicated on the assumption that he's correct about the ore still being there and in the quantity he's saying, so if he's lying its a bad investment. But if its true, it would be crazy to leave all that ore down there.

Absolutely not the case with underwater artifacts. I'm just an amateur, but in my experience there are sites (old docks and such) where you can find serious treasures even after decades of other divers combing the place. The fellow accurately noted that just because people took off the top layer of loot, doesn't mean there isn't a ton left under the silt. That being said, it'd probably help if he had a record of previous salvage operations to see how much could be left.
@fathom493
@fathom493 2 жыл бұрын
@@darkrai7597 It's very possible that it is that cheap. It looks very shallow so air lasts longer, less decompression times, etc. I think that it may be cheap, but the potential loss is massive. Commercial diving is very dangerous, and requires a lot of people to be done safely. This guy comes in, says he's gonna diy a vacuum cleaner and dive alone... no dice. I'm guessing the investors didn't want to have the risk of him dead, and previous would be salvagers didn't think it was worth the risk.

He also stated that the metal is leaching, and polluting the water around it, so please help him get it out (his words, not mine). Apparently when nobody else has seen any financial gain in this, including hundreds of other salvage companies, this man is still somehow emotionally invested in this project. After the crash of Swissair 111 the investigation team had to pay $200,000 a day to rent an underwater vacuum cleaner to pick up all the parts, and that was 10 years before this episode aired. I suspect it ended up costing him more than he planned to extract all these materials.

Has nothing to do with doubt. You don't risk ALL your money. Even if you're 99-100% sure about it. That's like Mark knowing there is 99% chance he is right in making money on something, and spending ALL his wealth because that's required to get it started. Even with it being so probable, it isn't worth the risk, however small. Is this more than 99% chance? Sure. But the concept applies.

That was interesting. Realistically, the logistics+ challenges in that situation can be insurmountable. So many things can go wrong; bad weather, unforseen hazards, equipment failure, he himself said the under currents there were really strong. With Shark Tank its usually about Product, and Product always deals w/the innovation of civilians needs + psychological interests of the population. Civilian Needs+Psychological Interest are a PEOPLE thing. With THIS it's not people; its the Physical World. You're taking a risk on engaging with the Physical World- carrying the weight of the Ore up to the surface, Low visibility, Hydraulics, temperature of the water, ACTUAL Sharks he mentioned (ironic), and most of all...the very Ocean itself: The most formidible of challenges! That's what made this particular one interesting. It was a fish out of water so to speak, instead of the typical People Factor this was the obstacle of real Physics.
