Sharon Black had a strong voice & was just 19 when she won Australian Bandstand's inaugural "Starflight International" competition in 1964, with another talented vocalist & popular Bandstand regular Janice Slater in 2nd place. Sharon's prize was a record contract with Mercury Records in the US, and this was the 2nd of 2 singles she recorded there. The sessions were directed by one of America's top arrangers Hal Mooney who's CV included the best of the best like Bing, Sinatra, Judy Garland, Sarah Vaughan, Dinah Washington etc.
Sharon became a Bandstand regular, giving her plenty of exposure & this 2nd single did particularly well in Adelaide, where it was a Top 5 hit. Her last single was issued in 1969 & she then moved to the US for work, marrying an American there.
Sadly however Sharon was killed in a car accident in 1979, still only in her early to mid 30's. Gone much too soon
RIP Sharon Black
