Sharon Outlaws Rooting for Kyle Larson at Indy; Gravel, Kofoid, Macedo & More

I made my first ever visit to Sharon Speedway in Hartford, Ohio where the World of Outlaws jazzed up a packed house on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. Conversations include World of Outlaws Championship leader David Gravel, Carson Macedo, Buddy Kofoid, Rico Abreu, Kalib Henry and local stars AJ Flick and Logan McCandless. I also swept the grounds to give you a up-close look at Sharon Speedway pit-side and grandstand side...a little bit of everything in this one. Hi Don. Yet another marvelous racing video! Thanks for taking me to a track I've never been. I really enjoyed all the interviews. A fantastic variety. Neat how you asked most of them the same question regarding talent. Are you born with it, or what? I also enjoyed the pace of the interviews. Just the right amount of time devoted to each racer. And finally the quality of the stills you showed, coupled with the extremely high quality of your video make it seem like a person is at the track with you. All in all, a very,, very fun production to watch. And folks, don't forget to look for Don early in this video. At the 1:13 mark, he shows a moment of himself being an ARCA Series pit announcer! Don is talking to Tony Stewart. Neat stuff.

Thanks for coming along, as always, Roger. If I'm not mistaken, Sharon Speedway is the second oldest (continually) operating speedway in America, behind only the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. HMM

Thanks for making the long drive to Sharon Speedway so we could see and hear some of the sights and sounds. (It's hard to beat the sound of an idling sprint car.) As usual, you had a nice mix of conversations with big names as well as those aspiring to become big names. I hope you weren't so modest that you didn't talk to the WoO announcer about your time doing the same thing as well as other duties in your career prior to becoming the HMM.

The only conversation I had with the WoO announcer is exactly what you saw in the movie. My dad took me to Sharon back in the early 70s from (delyria Ohio) and it was rained out and no one was there lol walked around the track and checked it out. I never went back for whatever reason. In Florida now so....... 😭

Not to take anything away from Steve Kinser’s driving abilities but a good part of Steve’s success has to be shared with his cousin Karl Kinser. It has been said that if there was a chance for Karl to get his hands on the car during a race Steve was unbeatable.

Absolutely...and Steve Kinser would say the same thing. I asked him during an interview...would you have had equal success without Karl Kinser? Steve's answer was an immediate "NO". HMM

Indy 500 drivers used to come outta sprint cars and the supermodified ranks all the time when I 1st started goin in 1980

And through the 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s...if you could handle the Salem high-banks in a sprint car without a cage, you were ready for the Indy 500...that's the way it was. HMM

Another great video. Never been to Sharon, hope to go one day though. Nice to see some of the local guys ("Posse") interviewed. Also cool to see Rico Abreu always remembers you and watches your videos even. I always find it interesting how some people will remember you and others don't. And often times the ones you think that will remember you don't and vice versa. Regardless, Rico seems to be a class guy in general.

@@HistoryMysteryMan when I was a kid getting an autograph from a certain Big block Modified driver that has since passed away (no it's not Bob McCreadie) he was not very friendly to say the least. That left a big impression on me. I vowed that if I ever raced no matter what the circumstances I would always go out of my way to be friendly to fans. I always chatted it up with fans after the races and always offered to let kids sit in my car, sometimes I would even let them start it up (probably not the best for liability issues lol but oh well). I always tried to be a good ambassador and get more people interested in the sport. And even though I never was very famous,even on a local level, it made me feel good when one guy told me as a kid I was one his favorite drivers, another guy who went on to race 360 sprints told me sitting in my car as a kid sparked his interest in driving race cars. Sorry to ramble on but my point is these drivers need to realize that they have more influence than they realize. Even the last place guy/ girl in a mini stock, how he/ she interacts with fans could have a lifelong positive or negative effect on that fan and how they view the sport, especially if they are younger.And no matter how rich or successful a driver becomes off the track at least they are no better than anybody else.

@@greggrauscher34 The most popular drivers always have time for the fans. I asked Schrader once...if he ever got tired of people in his face all the time. He looked at me and smiled..."beats getting a real job," he said. That always stayed with me. When you're hero turns you down for time, a pic, an autograph, it's the worst feeling...a real let down. Thanks for doing it your way; it's the right way. HMM

Thank you HMM. Schrader sets a good example for all drivers. I have never met anybody that doesn't like him or that has a bad interaction with him. And I think that anybody that has been to a race track more than a few times in their lives probably has seen him race somewhere. I've lost track of how many times I seen him race and in how many types of cars. Most memorable to me was seeing him finish 2nd to Junior Hanley at Cayuga in an ACT race at Cayuga years ago and last summer seeing him win a NASCAR Canada race at Ohsweken at 68 years old!
