I would love for Sharon Van Etten to release a Live Album. I really like the album version of Hands, but this live version of it is so much better.

Fifty years old, grew up listening to Clash, Jam, Police, Depeche Mode, Souxie, New Order/Joy Division etc. Then discovered Sabbath, AC/DC, Van FUCKING Halen, Maiden and Purple. Then there was Nirvana, Mudhoney, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, etc etc. Then came Oasis (if you weren't a working class Brit in the nineties you'll never understand). After that music died for me, it was all streaming and whatnot and Neil Young stopped making half decent albums, so I turned off the radio and withdrew into my rather large music collection. Then I found an NPR tiny desk that made me buy this album. Can't remember being so blown away on first listen by an album as Remind Me Tomorrow. Two weeks later it's still on constant repeat. My top three were Doolittle, The Stone Roses and Nevermind. One of them will soon be replaced, because this record is so bloody good.

Wonderful performance. That keyboard bit to end "Stay" is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard.

Stripped back, clean, lo-fi, with SVE's voice central - even with a few imperfections, it's much better and fresher than the overproduced, flat studio album recordings. Also... love the lyrics to No One's Easy to Love. For me, it's a song about still being in love with someone, some time after you've separated and are meant to have moved on.

Saw her open for Wilco at Chicago Theater in December, 2019. The venue was far too big and her beautiful music was swallowed up and disappeared. This is a significantly better venue. More intimate-fits her sound much better.
@erinchristey25714 жыл бұрын
I WISH I had been here for this! This venue is teeny-tiny and not normally used for national (global?) artists; I think the radio station (The Current) arranged this microshow while she was in town for a show at First Avenue. I think they only gave away tickets (no sales). BTW they rocked First Avenue. I've also seen her at Pitchfork, and she owned that stage as well.

I really don't like synthesized percussion. It may be fine for practicing, but not in a performance.
