What great fun, Sharon. I'd thought of modern bead lampshade bases, but these are much more fun. I've bought costume jewellery from charity shops before, but when getting bulk jewellery to take it apart (for crafting, miniatures & mixed media etc), I got a better deal on ebay. I searched for 'broken jewellery' & there was many different lots for sale, sorted by weight. Much of it isn't actually broken, it just hasn't sold, but it's all good for crafting. Btw - those pins that you cut out of the necklace are called 'eye pins', you can buy them in packets at the craft store, or there are tutorials online to make them with jewellery wire. Near the 'eye pins' in stores, you will also see 'head pins'. Instead of an eye (the loop) on 1 end, they have a head (like the head of a nail or a dressmaking pin) - these are also v useful. :)

suggestion, to make these look even more real you could flare out the top of the glass a little bit. maybe even use some tiny clear beads cut in half as glass accents.

I bought a lot of plastic pipettes to try and make mini bottles with and I think I will try them for the lamps (since the bottles didn't come out so good). Great tutorial, thank you.

I LOVE these oil lamps, they look so real, and very pretty too. I've made a couple of these, but instead of using fish tank tubing, I used some clear plastic pipettes that I've had lying around for ages but never used before. I just cut out the narrowest part of the pipettes and then cut the narrow pieces into into small tubes. You can buy the pipettes very cheaply from art and craft shops, and any shop where they sell resin. Love from Amanda Jones in Melbourne, Australia P.S Thank you for this great video tutorial ❤

OMG! I just spent about 2,000.- on miniatures on e-bay & Etsy! One of those lamps easily goes for 28.- plus S&H which can run from 9.00 up! Surprisingly those bead caps are sold in bags by themselves at Walmart in the beads department isle! I have a ton of beads & caps. Question: can the straight pins they sell be used as the hat pin your showing? And can you use super glue in exchange for the expensive Amazon glue? They both do metal, plastic, wood, etc.?I’m amazed and so grateful! I’m obsessed with miniatures & you’ve opened up a world of possibilities for me! I’m almost completely blind & this gives me a sense of purpose to complete something I’ve always dreamed of doing and saving me thousands of dollars!! Thank You so much for your tutorials! I subscribed and can’t wait to see your others! 🤗❤️🕯

I realize this is an older video, but when looking for jewelry findings it's better to search in millimeters, rather than inches. Most beads and findings are mm. These lamps are super cute too. I love how you made the tops. Very creative.
@WhereTheGnomesLive4 жыл бұрын
for sure. I don't buy specific pieces, only what I find in thrift stores. I figured some measurement was better than none, lol. And thank you for the tip and the kind words, much appreciated!
@Shari_A._4 жыл бұрын
@@WhereTheGnomesLive That makes sense. You had just mentioned looking on amazon, and measured in inches. So, I thought for future reference, in case you did need a specific size. Of all the beads and jewelry making stuff I have, I don't think I even have that size.. heh I do love that you were able to get them off a cheap piece of jewelry, because I know I have some of that.. haha
@WhereTheGnomesLive4 жыл бұрын
I love the thrift store bags of misc jewelry, they are such fun to open! And stick around long enough and you'll hear "better than an inch" and "just a little less than" "and my absolute favorite, "'a round abouts" I'm terrible for measuring.. I try hard for other people's sake but I eyeball everything and if only they allowed for those kind of measurements I'd be a professional lol!!! But it's good to know for future so thanks again. Amazon is so great! And since we're not out thrifting anymore due to the pandemic, my last bag of odd jewelry bits did come from there but none are actually measured either.. it's a bag of mixed sizes up to 15mm and it was cheap so I grabbed it to fill my stash again. (I start to panic when the stash gets low lol)
@Shari_A._4 жыл бұрын
@@WhereTheGnomesLive Yup.. my kind of measuring.. heh Very nice.. I never get lucky enough to find stuff like that.. heh
Great idea to reuse old jewelry from the thrift store. These are so cute. You can find bead caps from Michael's Craft Store or Joann Fabric Stores in their jewelry sections. These little lamps are so cute and thanks for sharing your ideas.

Super helpful! I bet these could be modified for electricity using pico LEDs if one wanted them to light up...the fine wires should thread up through the beads. A little trickier to line up all the beads, but should be possible.
