I still have my Sharp GF8989E that I bought new in 1981 for £299. It serviced regularly with new belts etc and sounds amazing. They dont makes this type of quality anymore.

That's cool. I have a 8989 that someone else bought new, if that counts 😀Mine needs servicing, so I might share the fun on the channel. I'm guessing it needs that capstan rubber?

The hiss from the radio stations is a result of digital signals. When signals were still analogue, tuning into a radio station was spot on with stereo. Some of my radios are auto tune and since signals went digital, they skip past all radio stations and I have to perform a manual tune, but they all have that hiss.

Pesky digital! Yes, I know what you mean about manually tuning the old auto tuning radios. That's progress.... Thanks for watching 👍

Those Sony's are fetching good money now, so glad you got a nice deal! Yeah - those old Sharps are great. The GX-300Z has similar design to the GF-500 (a bit boxier than the 575), but I haven't had one with detachable speakers - mine are mostly 'all in one' GFs. Thanks for watching 👍

@@retro_restos The difference between the GF-500E and the GF-500Z is the 'Z' model has fine tuning; the 'E' model does not, but they're basically identical units. ☺

I have this exact model (bought it from a UK seller last year) it has LW in the tuner and uses a standard figure-8 plug type power cord. Mine needed seven new belts (replacing them was super easy as they had not yet turned to goo). The GF-500E/GF-500Z is from 1982/83.

SEVEN? Thanks for that. And it looks so innocent 😂

@@retro_restos Yep, seven belts are required for this model. Three in each tape deck + one for the counter. 😎
So Cute 🥰 who is better?
