Honestly, I'm a huge Flashman fan, and I was looking for a system to play his era. I'm glad I found this one.

Don't be sorry it went on for a while! This, to me at least, is a hugely useful review of the rules and has convinced me to dive in.

Good man, it's a great set of rules and you'll love it!

A great game system and use it for Tex-Mex games - but difficult to learn , the rules themselves are not complicated but there are a lot of them and until I found a fan based playsheet I struggled . Probably a lot simpler if you had somebody to teach you it , but as I play solo it took a while to get into it . Lardies need to work on their play sheets I think .

Yep. Like all Lardy games it's helps to have someone to show you how to play and tease out the nuances.

Fantastic review as always, Alex! Love this rule set! Just need to get through my huge pile of 40k shame and get on to building my AWI minis! Awesome stuff!

Cheers, TBH, I'd just bin off the 40K stuff and concentrate on the AWI stuff!

Great review - and good idea to review this even though it’s been out a long time. Every day is someone’s first time looking at a rule set, and for someone somewhere it’s probably their first ever day to take an interest in wargaming and go looking for more information online. That title does mislead people about the inspiration. I see “Sharp’s Practice” and “Sharpe’s Practice” typed all the time. When I first wondered about this unusual military term, the internet only said it’s an old term for con artistry, like a “card sharp” (aka “card shark” so perhaps sharing etymology with “loan shark”), so apparently a typical Lardy joke/pun

Alex - thanks for another great review. I specially liked the fact that you took a bit of time with the command & control aspect of the game. I’ve watched the guys at Tabletop CP play several games of SP, and had a pretty good idea of the basic mechanics. However, I was lost when they started spending command cards in the middle of the turn. You cleared a lot of that confusion up. I didn’t see Tiny in this one - is she not in to SP?😸😸

Cheers, glad you enjoyed the video. Yes, the command and control aspect of SP is the real meat of the game otherwise it just descends into a bit of a long range firefight. I have been thinking of looking at SP in some detail and especially the card play and how it works. Maybe something for the future. Yeah, Tiny is a Chain of Command kinda girl.

Another good review. I had no idea about the role playing element, and any game where my troops can be "Surly" is a game for me!

You should, SP is an excellent game once you unpick the nuance in the card play and it's a low level entry to the period as well.

Flashman by George MacDonald Fraser, not Flashheart. Sorry to be that guy. Edit: and you corrected yourself later. I'm not just a pedant but an inept pedant.
