Molson/Coors have been plying that propaganda for years? I've even heard some say "it just doesn't travel"? What a load of old rot!

@@johnp8131 Bottled Doom Bar is brewed in Burton simply because of lack of capacity at Rock, but the cask Ale IS brewed in Cornwall. It is probably not as good as it used to be. Be mindful the brewery cannot be responsible of how it is kept in pubs.

@@kezchallacombe6684 That maybe so, however can that be true of every pub outside of Cornwall and Devon? Had it in Polperro, St Mellion and Sidmouth, quite pleasant! In fact, the pub in Polperro sold the whole Sharp's range. London, Cambridge, Oxford, Stafford, Norwich and Edinburgh, utter rubbish. All of those outside of the south-west were renowned real ale pubs too. Sorry, I just don't believe Molson/Coors, they're just another multi-national that has been lying to consumers for years. Even my mate who was clubhouse manager at Sidmouth Golf Club, told me that when he ordered Doom Bar, he always stipulated to the supplier that it must be the version brewed in Rock? And that's a few years ago now. Also, if the draught isn't brewed in Burton, why when 'fresh', does it still have that faint Burton "fart" aroma which doesn't seem to be apparent in the Doom Bar in the South-West?

I would have thought Sharp's Atlantic would have been a closer comparison to Tribute. Outside of the south-west you can keep Doombar! And Tribute isn't much better, at least north and east of Bristol? St Austel HSD is a superb darker ale and if you can find it, there is/was a pub that sold the whole Sharpe's range in Polperro, south-east Cornwall and they had the beautiful "Sharp's Revenge", however, from what you have said Simon, it was probably a "one off" from their brewery in Rock, although it may have become "Sea Fury" as it was around that colour and strength?

Your description of Doombar as inoffensive is about right. once a big company buys a local small brewery it loses it's local identity, there's nothing cornish about Doom Bar. The reason places stock it is because it lasts a very long time before going bad. In fact it is worth the pilgrimage to The Beacon Hotel to drink it if you can't get it elsewhere, but make sure someone else drives. It is astonishing. Like a pint of Christmas pud. The Sedgely Surprise (5% best bitter) is a corker too. As is Pale Amber 4%. And The Beacon Hotel has an historic interior of national importance and an on site tower brewery.
