On today's Steam Deck video I will go over how to get Sharp X68000 games running on your Steam Deck via RetroArch, including required bios / firmware files, game formats, how to use Emu Deck 2 (EmuDeck 2) to facilitate the process and most importantly how to start enjoying Sharp X68000 games on Steam Deck today!
Again I recommend getting a Dock for your Steam Deck as the process is MUCH easier that way!
But the Steam Deck is proving to be an amazing retrogaming handheld video game emulation machine and I love it!

I like Akumajo Dracula for X68000 or even better the PlayStation version. I can actually see the end of the game in the latter. I had my 50'' TV put on a 360 degree rotatable mount today so I can play the TATE MISTer shmups. I posted some photo's from my twitter account earlier today but YT deleted the link. It's very nice.

@@VideoGameEsoterica 😄 I should have mentioned it's a TCL TV that only weighs 7 kg. It's a great, cheap option if you want to play TATE games and be able to just move the screen back to YOKO mode for the others. Playing Tatsujin was easier than ever but still very tough.

@@VideoGameEsoterica I once bought a 34'' Hantarex Arcade monitor on Ebay. It weighs 65 kg. I played Ikaruga a lot on it in Tate mode. These days, I just rest my drinks and stuff on it when I workout in the garage. The image quality is not that great so it's no travesty.

In terms of X68000 games with MIDI on Steam Deck, yes, you can do that. However, in this case, the px68k core on Retroarch is NOT your choice then as the core itself doesn't support the external MIDI output. The one that actually supports any midi output is one of those standalone emulator like XM6 Pro-68k or XM6 TypeG. Although both are Windows software, they can be run on SteamOS through Wine (A software that can runs windows .exe program on Linux based OS). As for the MIDI setup, I personally use Midi Player (from Falcosoft) to do the job and again run it through Wine. Instead of Munt emulator, I use Munt VSTi plugin so that I can use Midi Player to inject that plugin (the VSTi plugin format usually is .dll). Please make sure the Midi port between the Midi Player and the emulator has to be the same so that the emulator can output the MIDI sound. As for the game, since I don't know how to launch different games from Game Mode while using one single X68000 emulator, so I came up with a stupid, but work solution: One game PER one X68000 emulator (each game may needs different controller setup and we can take advantage with this method). So when you add a non-Steam game, add the XM6.exe (or xm6g.exe if you are using XM6 TypeG emulator) to the Steam library. From here on, you can modify its name, add its profile and so on. Finally, in the "Launch Options" under each game title's "Properties" within Steam, add a line: **Your Directory**/MidiPlayer.exe & %command% (If setting up correctly, the system will load the Midi Player that you setup before and the emulator itself at the same time.) In terms of Proton, I'm using Proton Experimental to load the .exe file from Steam. I can go on and on & go through more details in certain parts but that would be super long. Anyway, this is basically my basic tips for you. I know the progress of making this to work would involve a lot more work than the video did but trust me emulating a home computer with MIDI setup can be a lot more complicated than we would think (especially for the first time). But if you have all the energy and patient to power through the challenge (which I did lol), you can do that too. I personally set up PC-98 and X68000 standalone emulators for certain games that requires MIDI to properly work in general which took me a good chunk of time to achieve on Steam Deck. But once it's done, playing X68000 and PC-98 games with MIDI on Steam Deck in general might be one of the best way to go with :D
