Everyone used to ride/drive on the left hand side. Here's why: 1) It was a sensible precaution in feudal societies. For example, the vast majority of people are right handed. If you're right handed, it's a much easier to draw a sword from the left than the right. 2) It was designed to limit the possibility of an opponent using your own weapon against you. There's no way they could reach across you if the weapon is on your left; 3) Right handed - easier to mount a horse on the left etc.
@ridgesail Жыл бұрын
Lances are held across the body from the right, with a shield held on the left, so the horses passed each other on their left sides.... The opposite of how they drive in the UK.

She acts like Sharpe couldn’t have a role in society in England... he could just rock up at the palace and spend time with the prince of Wales again 😂😂😂 probably get put in command of some regiment of his, even in peace time he’d get a heft pay cheque and a high position due to friendship with the prince and his command

Bernard Cromwell's Sharpe is partially based on at least one soldier who started as a private and eventually rose to being a Colonel in the British Army between 1803-1815. Sharpe isn't implausible. Sean Bean may be shorter and fairer than the author's character but Mr. Cromwell is a fan of Sean Bean's portrayal. After Bean had the role, Cromwell stopped describing Sharpe's physiology.
@thexalon8 жыл бұрын
There are 2 basic parts of Sharpe's story that are improbable: 1. That he survived for so darned long as an infantry officer. 2. That he seems to heal from almost any non-lethal injury in a matter of a couple of weeks maximum. Also at least questionable is the fact that approximately every young woman he encounters wants to sleep with him, which was not the prevailing behavior in the early 1800's.

Why did Sharpe have that long coat on at the start and as soon as he was pinned down he was not wearing it, and he never carries as much gear as the rest of his men, and his men never get shot, yet the red coats get knocked down like nine pins all the time. you always know who will get killed the same as on Hornblower and Captain Kirk when ever her took a party down onto a planet, it was always the one who was not one of the main characters that got killed.
