If you either take the operating handle from your existing Rolls Razor case, or take one from a spare case, you can mount the blade onto the operating handle and use it like a chisel hone guide on an external stone. I think the original hones are about 5k grit, so taking it from there up to 10k, then stropping will give you a very good edge.

I think the gaud on the blade is more for protecting the edge than being a safety razor

how many laps are needed to sharpen the blade? is it worth using the stone and strop the razor came with?

I've got a few of these blades. Which grit would you recommend? Did you start on an 8000?

The stone in the rolls razor was not the high end grit level as what some people make out it is ,these razors were cool and I own many, but as a travel razor that you could sharpen on the go was a bit of a gimmick, due to the shaving edge that dam stone they placed in them, The blade were very well built and what a wedge they are, if you could replace the stone with a better /more quality one then your onto a winner, But you need to use some sort of lubricant with a replacement different stone ,Rather than keep sharpening out of the case.

Yes but they are not meant for repair. If the edge is good then they could be used to maintain them for a long time

HHHmmm You say no need for tape but as you push and pull the blade you are wearing down the Top thicker shoulder as well with every stroke. so the sharp side angle changes with every stroke with the tape it maintains the right angle at every stroke and wont where out the top thicker shoulder that is protected by Tape. it is like you are shaving off the thick shoulder part for no reason just to get the razor side sharp and the angle will never be achieved THINK ABOUT THAT. Also all you knead really a 8k stone just to keep a fresh feel on your skin once a mouth or every 2 months of use. if you get a rolls used from eBay start with 6k stone then a 8k to Finnish then leather strop it and your good for 1 to 2 months of use with excellent shaving results 👍

Wearing it the spine changes the angle overtime to account for the changes in width of the blade… They were designed that way your spine set your angle if you don’t the blade continues to work its way back into the thicker part with no accounting for that

@@CrazySharp True but you can Prolong that from happening by using Tape and maintaining the 40 Degree angle anything more then that angle your wasting the steel for no reason . also in time of sharpening in your way will result in a unbalance premium Heavy feel that once was on the blade . I sharpen my Rolls just like you did But with Black Tape on the shoulder it keeps it at 40 Degrees and it is so sharp i dont need shaving cream to shave . Get the Point ! with shaving cream i only need 1 pass while others need 3 passes with there Gillette razor ect..

I am experimenting with sharpening these. Noticed to keep the same bevel that the sharpening case puts on it takes 5-6 pieces of tape.
