I walked away from my father at a young age, so a slightly different scenario but for similar reasons explained in the lyrics. This song is accurate for me except the beatings. He gave the belt like a Wildman as punishments but that's because his temper and we were stupid kids that never listened. Saw him one time in the last decade and that was because my great grandfather was dying of leukemia. What hits hard is the idea of him dying and never receiving closure.
