Such a precious documentation. Thank you Shastram. I do have a question that has been on my mind for a while - that got triggered by the video. This is regarding the names for rhythmic pacing - Vilamba, Madhyama, Druta. They are all Sanskrit terminologies. In Sanskrit, Vilamba means to "delay" or "linger", Madhyama means "middle" or "medium" and Druta means "active" or "rapid". But Tamil teachers (as in this video) keep saying "Durita" instead of "Druta". Durita in Sanskrit suggests evil and sinful or literally "a bad path". In Tamil however, "Durita" means active or quickened pace. But the Tamil teachers (even when I was a student) use the word Durita in place of Druta. I guess it is mostly because 1) they are not aware of what Durita actually means in Sanskrit and 2) Druta and Durita sound so similar that they honestly think they are saying it correctly and don't realize that it is a mistake. But to those who understand some Sanskrit, this constant repetition of "Durita" really sounds weird. This mixing of the Tamil and Sanskrit terminologies creates confusion. And this pronunciation error is also passed on to young students in interior Tamilnadu towns where Tamil is the prominent language of teaching and learning. I think the usage should either be all Tamil terminologies or all Sanskrit terminologies. How to inform/enlighten them? I personally think all artists SHOULD know some basic Sanskrit but then that subject has been so unfortunately politicized!

Thank you mam for your information. Yes definitely there has been a mixing of Tamil and Sanskrit over the years and this is probably why there is a mixing of pronunciation. However, regardless of what language it is the correct pronunciation and meaning must be preserved and i appreciate you informing us in this instance. I hope one day we will be able to reach you as well and at that point I hope we can document all of the information you have to convey in this matter as well. Thank you for watching and sharing your knowledge 🙏🏽😌
