Thank you! My very 1st run on a new 2024 xmaxx 8s with belted tires ordered directly from Traxxas website. It only drove for approx 5 minutes and when I put it on a load climbing a steep hill it stopped driving. Could hear the motor spinning no forward or reverse. That sucked, had to carry it about 3/4 of a mile back to the car and go home :( I had a pretty good idea to check these gears and I removed the housing, but without any experience working on this all I could see is the 2 gears looked right, they weren't slipping and manually turning either gear would make the tires turn. So the motor drive shaft was free spinning inside the gear and I wasn't sure what to do about that. I find your video and @ 10:23 I see traxxas did not torque down that set screw, it backed off just like you said can happen in this vid. I couldn't see the flat spot on the drive shaft and I didn't want to remove more than I needed to fix this so I plugged in the batteries and feather tapped the throttle till the flat spot on the drive shaft appeared on the top and then I locked down the set screw. I see the screw had what I believe was the factory threadlock but it probably wasn't enough. I'm gonna need to get that threadlock you reommended. Anyhow, just want to say thanks for the time you put in and the level of detail you go into helps a lot!

Same with me. 2024 xmaxx. First drove it today and chipped a tooth off the spur gear. Didn’t even get to burn a whole pack before it broke.

You certainly put it through it's paces, nice job Donnie.

Nice!!! That is a beast!!! I didn’t think that RC was that big until the end when your kneeled down behind it. Looks like it has a lot of torque!!

That’s why I wanted to kneel next to it. The thing is a monster, it’s scary with that 1275kv motor. So fun juddie, I can’t work on big cars anymore. These Traxxas make it fun for me as an ex-mechanic, there like real cars and trucks. So crazy and fun, that’s my relaxation like hunting is for ya. Take care my brother, I like the rifle edition you be putting up on your channel. Great stuff brother 👍

Your motor was not properly set down in that notch.. watch the very beginning of your video where you show the damage and look where you had the tab on the motor mount where it drops into the chassis. That’s prolly mainly why your gears blew cuz why mis-alignment what so ever will destroy gears in an xmaxx. I ruined mod 1.5 gears which are huge ass teeth because the pinion and spur weren’t perfectly aligned but I’m also gonna try shimming it as well with this new set

I bought 4-6 different mod 1 gears. Was so sick of busting teeth. I upgraded to the mod 1.5 gears and no longer have to worry. They are definitely louder but worth the reliability
@V8chump4 ай бұрын
Problem is with 1.5 mod you just move the weakpoint to more expensive harder to fix parts. Tons of guys bash on included 46T gears and never have issues. Don’t land on throttle. Don’t use self right. Use motor washers. Mod 1 should be fine if mesh doesn’t move
@allenjohnroe2 ай бұрын
i'd say the worst part is the pin guide is no longer valid. I was either gearing up, down , or removing my pins for the mesh to work properly.

Good to see the XMAXX back out and running again brother, those hardened gears should last a fair while compared to the stock cast ones.👍

Thanks Brother, if not. Then time for the monster Mod 1.5 gears. Lol If you haven’t seen them, oh my. The only bad thing, you will have no Cush drive. Nothing to take out the shock from jumping etc…

I remember when the gears got tore up. What a monster.

That thing is too much, but so fun and easy to fix. Traxxas did good on quick changing parts.

That's crazy. They were mangled. Is there no slipper clutch on the xmaxx? I wonder if that would have helped?
@BIGDRONEFLYER77RC Жыл бұрын
That Cush setup takes the shock out, just crappy gears. I should be good now, just needed Hardened upgrade. Thanks Ryan for Stopping by buddy!

@@BIGDRONEFLYER77RC awesome info Donnie. Obviously I'm not at all familiar with the internals of the Xmaxx since I don't even own any Traxxas lol
@BIGDRONEFLYER77RC Жыл бұрын
@@RDsRCReviews these guys are amazing, front, rear and center diff. Traxxas has the center just about locked with the 20 million diff oil. So no slipper needed here, lol Pretty cool how there setup like a real truck. Also comes apart easy into 3 sections. So if racing, you can change out individual sections. I’m thinking of building a few extra bulkheads, fully loaded.

How my runs did you get before the pinion gear feel off? Typically I see one to three runs before it does with a pinion gear like that. Im trying the Tekno pinion now with the larger set screw. Also id use red loctite. Yes you can get it loose later if needed. If the Tekno falls off im going with the Arrma Safe-D5.

Put the slipper back in thats how. The 6s had a slipper instead of the bs cush gear . Your drive line will like it to.

The only way to fix it is to get the better gearing . Zip teeth gone 😂. I’ve seen it happen all the time in vids but not to the upgraded gears . What’s work g with them cheap asses
