In addition to being an iconic singer, Khan Sahib Shaukat Ali also had such a beautiful personality. Just hearing him talk is revelatory in that sense -- he radiates so much love, passion and intellect. Which is why it troubles me to hear many interviews of him wherein the anchor just shows up with a list of stock questions instead of having a true conversation with him. Why is this the case? Do we not have charismatic journalists or conversationalists in our community who can engage in a stimulating discourse? It just feels like such a mismatch. To be fair, the anchor asked good, astute questions. And it could very well be that the anchor did in fact engage Khan Sahib more organically and that the interivew was just edited poorly. In either scenario though, the end product doesn't quite match the ebb and flow of Shaukat Ali's genius. Instead, it just follows this boring format : 1.) Question asked 2.) Khan Sahib says and/or sings something profound. 3.) Little to no follow up. Random next question asked. *Repeat* Surely we can do better than this! Anyway, regardless -- Shaukat Ali was a mountain of musicality and an ocean of humanity. We were very lucky to have him!
