If I'm not wrong he actually used oil paints for this particular book.

He uses quite a lot of different things depending on the work, ranging from oil paints to pastels to coloured pencil, and lots of other things

Yes I just painted out of no where and kept up a style that just flowed out of me . Some how I stopped as I got sick of a natural Monet gardens and bush house , and odd characters. Watching this Shaun Tan has lit a flame in me to start up again . Just natural , but now 67 yrs old I would like to do again . People asked could they hang my crazy abstract / Monet type of work and it was a compliment. Shall start again 14 yrs after stopping . Thanku Shaun, you help light that fire again . 🤗🙋♥️it's now 2022 and I got to see this . I hope we hear more of you Shaun, your humble and you love art ♥️

I agreed with him saying a good work starts from a very small idea that u don’t even quite understand , while if u take it too seriously, it becomes a plan, it probably fail

Having control - The complex social skills of society are being put aside for the much easier parade of gadgets we embrace. The older boy has gone past the boy on the hill, the skills he has learned will not be passed on, therefore, the younger does not receive love or empathy and has to build it for himself...but he has no reference or experience from which to model. Creating the foremost need (love) in a machine is a Sisyphus-like burden, doomed to frustration. Instead of complex emotion the little one will settle for a fabricated version of love - control of the machine.

There's a missing shadow of a horned biggest tin toy. I wonder if that is intentional to have the boys more separated.

The older boy is looking down, completely despondent to the plight of his weaker brother. The older has checked out from, or lost the value of, human contact. You can see this on streets and restaurants everywhere in the modern world - cell phones seem to be pulling humans around, like divining rods, while human contact is ignored. The older boy has the exact posture of a kid walking and testing on his phone.
