Pretty cool seeing "The Hunt" map from allied assault in this game. Brings back so many memories.

Hardly anyone could run this game on release and it got drowned by much better games at the time. It's good to see it still has the regular players online.

The details in this game still blow me away. I love the map design and all the debris. It really immerses me when I see it. I'm currently playing Max Payne 3 story, which is an outstanding shooter.

Fucking classic! This was one of my favorites, I use to play it on xbox live way back when. Sad that they stopped doing MoH games like these ones.

You've played with the same weapon 95% of the time. Would've loved to see more varierty when you are revisiting a game like this.

Better than new age garbage. Gotta love the crap they put out today with all these lame custom skins for guns. Loved team fortress 2 until all the stupid useless stupid shit started.

I liked the early cosmetics but a lot of the newer ones suck

There's a few good games out today, definitely. One example of a hardcore FPS game that is newer and appeals to fans of these older and more genuine online experiences is 'Hunt: Showdown 1896.' There's several others out there as well. I think you do a great disservice to the hard work some developers put in when you generalize everything today as "new age garbage," without really looking around. But anyways.. no, not everything today is how you've explained modern games. There's tons of shooters, RPGs and more doing hard work and keeping greed out of the equation as much as possible. They just don't hit the front pages or headlines because they aren't advertised by a billion dollar budget and shoved down the masses throats. Same as music; if you only pay attention to the radio you'll hear the same mass produced and regurgitated songs over and over. The gaming industry is alive and well with polished and immersive experiences for a wide range of audiences whom don't enjoy micro transactions and washed out cosmetic fashion shows parading around as PVP arenas.

@@DrowsieDumbo what do you think makes hunt more genuine? i've never played it but it seems generic

@@JohnDoe-37476 This is gonna be a pretty long message, I don't blame you if you don't want to read this all. The first thing that makes me say that is the audio design. It's very spatial and well designed audio that really immerses you in the game. You have to be careful when navigating the map because let's say for example you're sneaking up on somebody in the forest; if you're not careful you will step on loose branches and they will break under your feet which can give away your position. There's things in the map like crows who are eating in flocks which if you get too close to, will all caw and fly away. It's how players sometimes give away their position. I was walking through a field one time and heard a flock of crows startled behind me, so when I turned around I saw a guy crouch walking in the trees following somebody or looking for bounty hunt clues. Same thing with ducks in the ponds and rivers, etc. The audio is very detailed to the point where even something as simple as jumping down off a bale of hay could have your character let out an audible "ughh," as they catch their breathe. When you're playing tactically, you can hear everything from gunfire in the distance to people stepping on broken glass near you. I could go on for ages about the incredible audio design. As for the gunplay which is the second part for me, the guns are all dated because the game is set in 1896. That means no full auto, no spray and pray and semi-unreliable hip fire. You have to be really careful with your shots because reloading takes a "somewhat realistic," amount of time and when you reload with unused bullets in a strip clip you will actually physically discard those bullets. Most modern games just have a digital bullet count but this game counts your bullets as discardable physical entities. The guns feel great and pretty realistic for the time, pistols that are single and double action don't rapid fire like a psychotic mad man, they actually pull the hammer and fire at a relatable rate. There's more I could go into but basically, you can't just run in there guns blazing unless you're an absolute god. You will get thrashed and spit out. Alongside worrying about making too much noise and picking your shots very carefully, there's the threat of other hunter players who are also out bounty hunting, monsters and demons, wild rabid animals, etc. It's a pretty damn vicious world in the game, it isn't something that even a typical seasoned FPS player would pick up and just instantly be winning rounds in. There's a lot that goes into it. Obviously this is just why I would describe it as a genuine experience, doesn't mean everyone will like it. The game has ZERO pay to win features because the hunter characters themselves don't possess unique abilities and all the guns can be earned by playing the game and not exclusively through purchases. There are several skins in the in-game store which aren't flashy and are still time-accurate, provide no advantage and don't have to be purchased to unlock anything usable. It's a pretty genuine game from those standards because it isn't excessively greedy, isn't spammy and unrealistic with it's core functions and has a lot of room for learning, improving and perfecting. A lot of modern games, all the guns and things feel the same and have no weight. A lot of what people will talk about when they recall favorite FPS games from the past are things like "just straight up shooting, no BS," and "no pay to win," as well as "realistic guns or fights," and personally I'd say that this game hits all those marks. If you can get into the concept of old guns and wild west tainted with demons, the core game is reminiscent of earlier COD and MOH. No mini-map or radar, no spammy movement, no forced purchases or "I need that to beat these guys," bundles in the store. It's hard, but it's fun. It vastly rewards patience and precision and punishes ego and impulse. But I get that it isn't for everyone.
