Miss your bestd. Can't watch a shaving class. It's not about looking good or better, but more about standing out and make a stance. 4 and a half month yeard now. Love it. We'll see what next year may will bring and decide on shortor long or the twesrd. 1 thing for sure: never without ever!

Thank you for the excellent video! I love Harry’s razors and I’ve tried a lot of them, including safety razors. Harry’s are my absolute favorite! I always shave with the grain and across the grain, never against the grain. And that works very well for me.
@jjperez82 ай бұрын
I’ve seen Patrick from Supply recommending that same technique. 👍

I agree. Shaving your head with a razor bald with the grain is the way to go. Its still fast, gets you bald and there's way less irritation
@shanekunde73022 ай бұрын
If I shave once a week I can go against the grain with ease. It seems my skin is able to tolerate it only after a week of not shaving. Shaving more than once a week I will only go with and across the grain.

@wadeschreffler21612 ай бұрын
I agree with you Greg. An against the grain shave can be very smooth, but can also cause problems like irritation and razor bumps/ingrown hairs. Dermatologists usually recommend that you don’t shave against the grain for these reasons. I’ve found as I’ve gotten older that the against the grain pass only causes me problems and just isn’t worth it. As you’ve mentioned in your videos, I’m finding the electric razor on my head is very convenient, gets close enough and is problem free. I do like a traditional shave as well.
@beastlymarek2 ай бұрын
Imo yes, I have found it to be impossible to get an actual smooth shave without going against the grain, and I can do it with no irritation, so I guess I’m lucky in that regard

I'm the type of person who feels that I haven't completed a shave, head or face, until the skin is smooth. For me, it feels like it gives me just a couple more hours of very clean look. On my head, since I have an autoimmune scalp condition that has made my hair fall out in patches, skin close shaves are a must to keep from having a weird patchy looking scalp/ Even without the scalp condition, I would still need to go against the grain, but that's me. But I seldom have to reapply cream between switching directions. Just dampen my hand and rub it over where I have shaved, and there is enough residual cream to suds back up. Now, BRUT!!! That was my favorite as a teenager, and all us teens wore aftershave and/or cologne since it was before all of the olfactory sensitivities of today. I miss my colognes, but I don't want to make my coworkers uncomfortable in their breathing!

It’s been a long time since I shaved with a razor but when I used to do it I never went against the grain. Just wasn’t ever worth it for me. Shaving with the grain gets close enough for me.

I found that shaving my head against the grain gives me an extra day or two between shaves. Does it give me a rash? Sometimes... But it goes away in a few days. Also, my head shining doesnt bother me so I personally do it, but I certainly understand your points.

I’ve been shaving my head for 14 years. I have so many head shavers. All the latest pit bulls. My 450.00 head shaver. All head blades. Foil shavers. DE razors. You name it I got it. Need to have a huge sale. lol. I’ve been using my $45 Norelco rotary shaver for about a year and a half. For my face and head. It does great. It’s smooth. Takes me about 20 mins. There is no need t for me there is no news to spend all this time shaving against the grain. I can use a D razor spend about 35 minutes and get it as smooth as possible. And about six hours, I have double everywhere I’ve learned with all the money I’ve spent over the years it just not worth the hassle to go against the grain. 8:58

For now against the grain, sometimes alternating side ways on problematic spot back of head. Gives me an extra day I find off looking smoother, I tend to go 2-3 days between shaves. If I had rashes, spots and bleeding more then id not go against the grain since the head would never really re-cover.

You may have inspired me to go head with a style change. I recently switched from a shaved head to a mohawk. Not a while punk style mohawk but a 2" long look. And then I got the urge to shorten my 18" beard to better match my hair, but I had such a hard time doing it. I did think of your shave off video as I debated. Well, I did it. My beards only about 6" long now and I'm liking the change a lot. Who knew? Maybe shaking things up now and then isn't as crazy as I thought.

Yup, this confirms that shaved looks better than stubble. It looks far more precise. Shaving against the grain results in a smoother shave for me, but what is it? 5 or 6 hours worth of hair growth? I still try to go against the grain though.

Get a nice double edge safety razor, a brush, a good soap or cream and maybe preshave and you won't have any issues ^^ The multiblade cartridge razors do cause more irritation than a single blade.

Several men's high end designer fragrances such as Penhaligon's Sartorial or Rive Gauche pour Homme by Yves Saint Laurent have been inspired by the scent of Brut which is a fraction of the price of the designer brands. I myself use it almost on a daily basis.

Why do all you guys keep turning the tap on and off all the time. Just fill you sink with a bit of water, dip the razor in and shake it, then rinse the lot out at the end. Does my head in. I clean shave now. Head and face. I don't know why I started doing it. I haven't been clean shaven since I was like 18 maybe. But I like it. Every bloke my age seems to have facial hair now (32). I do get terrible shaving rash on my neck though. If you're going to keep shaving mate, I'd recommend any if the Leaf Razors. A modern take on a Safety Razor.
