Your video was helpful. I recently invested in a razor like this but was disappointed in the result. You mentioning how when reassembling the razor it bends the blade made me realise the lower part of mine was upside-down and no pressure along the blade... corrected, I now have a fantastically close shave!! I can elaborate a bit. The issue of these razors is that they suck :D The end. Oh and they are usually not that sharp as single blade double edge razors unless you buy a premium product. This unconsciously makes you push harder on the blade irritating your skin. It also makes you go over multiple times which again irritates the skin. The other issue is that the space between razors tends to clog with skin and hair which again makes the razor cut less and makes you again go over the same spot multiple times or with harder pressure. With these, if you shave regularly, you can just easily slide over. With the right double-edge razor inside, it's the sharpest as it can get for basically a dollar. Astra, Gillette, Wilkinson, Feather, you can't go wrong with these.

They do. When you use a shaveing soap/creme what ever, that coats and protects you skin quite a bit, but when you pass a spot with the blade, that coating is taken of or at least reduced by quite a bit so the folowing blades pass over mostly unprotected skin.

Update: Upon some further reading, Razor Emporium seems to have a varied reputation as far as their replating service is concerned. A cheaper and highly reputable service is Backroads Gold. I have been using safety razors for almost 3 years now. Being male obviously I mainly shave my face, however I have used it as a full body razor. Without getting too descriptive make sure you use the right kind of razor, blades, and growth map well. More so with areas such as the face, around the knee, bikini (we all know what I mean) and any areas one has angular or "Curves." I converted my girlfriend to safety razors. In order to do so, I shaved myself and shaved her the first time. Reccomendation is that if you have sensitive skin use a pre shave before hand. And look into different types of blades and razors. Some are more "aggressive" and will be better suited to different hair types. The more "mild" ones are used for thinner hair or more sensitive areas. Blades effect the shave more than the razor. Just know that both do.

I want to give some tips, you should try to get shaving soap or cream, a brush and a bowl ( this one is optional you can do the lather on your skin), the lather is going to keep your skin lubricated for the blade and it's way better than any shaving goo, an after shave balm might come handy to rehydrate your skin after the shave, you got to bear in mind the act of shaving is an agression to your skin. you can buy safety razor like the merkur 34C, parker 91R (this has a longer handle than merkur) and Edwin Jagger DE89. Those razors are good for begginers. Please with safety razors do not apply presure the weight of razor will do the job.

the dudes out here are like - "a blade lasting a month....." for our beards we're lucky to get 4 or 5 shaves out of a blade before we really should use a new one - and that may be one of the reasons why so many people are concerned about cuts and nicks - when the blade becomes dull you'll apply more pressure and that's where cuts or razor burn happens - it's a misconception that you'll apply "no pressure" but you generally apply very little pressure. Anyway great video and the more people that stop throwing cartridge blades and razor handles in the trash the better!

We've been trying to reduce our plastic use so we've been using a safety razor and bamboo toothbrushes.

The most important thing is holding a safety razor at a 360 degree angle not holding it straight also a safety razor that has the open butterfly mechanism is easier to change the blades

can you type the name of the brand of the razor products maybe I missed it.

I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. I’ve had a safety razor with astra premium blades for a couple months now and my shaves are not near as close and I get cut all the time! And my underarms have such bad irritation :(. I go slowly, don’t press hard (just the weight of the razor), short strokes. It’s in properly. Maybe it’s just my shape or something. I’ll just keep trying I guess. But sometimes I have to go back to my 5 blade disposable razor (that is many months old) to give my legs a chance to heal and get a closer shave.

Hi! What is the brand of your safety razor?
@tex_0832 жыл бұрын
Good video, very informative. However, you're still using shaving mousse in a disposable, aerosol can, isn't that just a new form of waste? Have you thought about using a shaving soap instead?

I actually found a Wilkinson Sword safety razor at my local drug store for only 3€ plus blades (in Germany though)

Please be SO careful unscrewing a razor like that, that you have to hold the top, I only use a razor like that, for over a decade, and my fingers slipped and I almost needed stitches, the blades are ridiculously sharp and it's so easy to slip. I also recommend saving the wrapper and case, wrap them back up when you change it, save them, pop them all in the empty case and pop into your local pharmacy and ask them to put them in the sharps

How would you shave areas where you can't use the weight of the razor like under legs?
@MituDjakarian6 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same!
@neairaallegiere546 жыл бұрын
Not sure if it is correct, but I just pose myself so I can use the weight of the razor on the backside of my legs. If needed I apply a enough presure to just steady the razor against my leg.

What Nea said, basically :) Barely applying any pressure at all, just placing the razor on the skin lightly. You'll get the hang of that pretty quickly after you've felt how much pressure the weight of the razor is, in my experience

I got my mum a Wilkinson's sword premium set, after getting one myself and then seeing all my old well used Gillette Fusion 5 blades in her cupboard, I'm just worried she'll find it too hard to use as I have done my legs and I cut myself once or twice.

But the plastic shavers serve their purpose when traveling, the plastic ones are also convinient for a quick shave when out doors just use it and throw it away they are cheap enough. I have 2 safty razors and a few plastic ones for a quick shave or for shaving lint off clothing.

Here's a question. Have you tried using this on ''sensitive parts'' as a woman? please let me know, somebody, I'm about to buy one
@jaclyn40985 жыл бұрын
I've been using a safety razor for over 6 months and I still can't get used to it. I don't get as good of a shave, I have to replace the blades after 1 or 2 uses, and I cut myself almost every time. But I'm so determines to switch because they're more economical and environmentally friendly..other than sugar waxing, this is my best option. But so far it sucks :(

different blades might feel better and the razors are also a bit more mild or aggressive compared to similar razors
@jaclyn40982 жыл бұрын
@@smievil well this comment was 3 years ago, and I stuck to it! I still use the same dollar store razor I bought originally! I just buy new blades. It took some practice but I figured it out :)
