Love this!!! Subscribed!!! I just moved on base as well about 2 or 3 weeks ago. I'm from up north so this is a huge change for me. We lived off base for a year and now in base while my husband is deployed. Great video♡

We were also stationed at shaw before moving to Jblm. These houses are in Shannon woods/Meriwether Landing. Newer area as far as housing. I heard they are adding on to this community within the next 2-3 years

Thank you for posting this! I was nervous about PCS to Shaw..but this helped! Thanks! I know your kids are older but how is the CDC we have an infant? Is it walking distance?

I never heard anything bad about the CDC. If you live on main base, the CDC is in walking distance. They closed the gates earlier this year to where more than half of the on base housing is now basically off base housing and you have to drive around to the gate to get on to main base, otherwise the CDC would have been in walking distance. Since the housing area is quite big, it depends on where exactly you live.

Thank you so much for posting your video. We're pcsing this coming March. Going to be quite a change going from living off post to on base. Were you able to hook up any of your appliances besides the coffee machine? I ask because we are fond of our current washer and dryer and want to know if we should keep it for the move or sell it in the next couple of months.

Keep your washer and dryer 🙂 we have our own washer and dryer here at Shaw. The only appliances that are already in the home are fridge, microwave and stove. You bring everything else with you. We lived off base for about 4-5 years and 10 years on base at other dirt stations and decided that we have more money in our pockets by living on base until we are ready to retire. Safes tons of Money and it’s really not bad at all.

Hi! That depends on which school. The Middle School zoned for Shaw is great, but the elementary schools are not great imo. There’s only 2 high schools in Sumter, so not much to chose from there lol.

How long was the wait for SNCO housing??? Looking at 2-3 bdrm SNCO (maybe 4 depending on who stays overseas)...

Suzanne Lacey we got on the list on a Monday, and got the call the same week on Thursday with move in dates. It was extremely fast!

@@TheNevFam Wow! That makes me feel a little better- I was told they only have 12 FGO/SNCO houses, so I assumed a bit of a wait. Looking at arriving in March. Haven't gotten to watch your School video yet, but do your kiddos go to the schools based on base housing? It has been hard to find any info on school age kids, and I haven't heard wonderful things about the schools for base housing...but don't think I can afford private schools!!!

When we received the call from housing (after being on the housing list for 3 days only) they gave us a move in date 30 days out. So as long as you are on the list now, you’ll be set by March, you may even get a move in date before that. And there are actually tons of single family FGO/SNCO housing. Most people have trouble getting into JNCO/enlisted housing up to e-6, those are the duplex homes and the wait for those can be really long.

My elementary kiddos don’t go to the schools on base, they remained at the school they attended when we lived off base. Only my middle schooler goes to Hillcrest which is zoned for Shaw. The other school video may help you a bit, but if you don’t want your kiddos to attend the base schools, you can do an open enrollment at the Sumter school district to put them into a different school, but you’ll have to take that drive like I do

@@TheNevFam the one for sure that will be moving with me in March is 7th grade-- so how is Hillcrest? Can they walk to and from school? We are coming from DoDEA schools so I'm a little nervous about going back into public... looking like my husband and my other two will finish the school year at our current duty station. Next year they will be 2nd, 6th and 8th. Thanks for all your replies and help, more help/guidance than I've received in the past month!
