Shawn just likes being a contrarian for the sake of it. I know it’s a trend right now I guess to like a24 movies, but they’re probably one of the few movie distribution companies that actually cater to more alternative film makers and seem like they give the directors a lot of creative control. You can tell that Shawn went into a lot of those movies with the knowledge of the hype around them and watched them just to say that they’re overrated lol

i think if you’re going to be an advocate/ appreciative of a studio giving filmmakers full control on their own projects, you’re gonna have to accept that not everyone will get or even like those films. Especially when it comes to the experimental direction many a24 films go in. I don’t think it’s necessarily him being contrarian as much as them being movies that don’t work for everybody, which in a way is the point.
