Thank you for speaking TRUTH on A&T! We have burned our program down to the foundation for reasons we will never know. I wish Coach Brown the best… in his next endeavor. Perhaps he can make a run at his alma mater MVSU.

Should all exceptional HBCU athletic programs seek membership in PWI conferences since TSU, Hampton and NCA&T did so? Isn't grass greener and ice colder on the other side of fence?

Each of those schools reasons for joining a PWI conference are different. TSU was partly based on cost of travel. as TSU is a smaller school, and the HBCU conference they was in ended (as TSU was never in the CIAA, SIAC, SWAC, or MEAC). Hampton reasoning is because their leadership having been telling people in public, since the 1980s, that they want to go a specific PWI conference and as soon as they got that invite they was gone. The only thing that was confusing was the move to the Big South, as Hampton plan was to go to the conference that morphed into the CAA. North Carolina A & T State University move was in part due to MEAC leadership and some academic considerations on being a better research institution. The larger question is: if the MEAC had not jump the gun moving to D1, without some of the founding members, and waited until everyone was ready, would A&T have left. While BCU and FAMU saved the MEAC, it also put a financial buried on the founding member schools with increase travel in all sports (hence why some of the schools start cutting sports). While we can't change the past, the MEAC leadership needs to get better in providing better revenue opportunity for conference members and not repeat past mistakes of trying to expand the conference past their original footprint without have additional revenue to cover increase in cost. Offering to wave the conference annual membership fee is not the answer for new members, as existing members will conference payout will decrease with each new addition to the conference. The MEAC tier one media rights is coming up for renewal, so they need to hit this out of the ball park with a way better deal than they currently have.

@@EyeOfTheWatcher TSU had over 9,200 students in 2022, Notre Dame has 13,100 students. TSU is one of the larger HBCU. We can build our HBCU conferences with our best and brightest or just make sure the last school in HBCU conferences not forget to turn off the lights! Smart people can rationalize staying in HBCU conferences or leaving. If we rather build and strengthen other conferences, no one else is going to help us build and strengthen our own conferences.

If you want to compete for CHAMPIONSHIPS....a PWI conference is the only way
@jmanhope174529 күн бұрын
@@johnperkins6550 the only reason this is true is because UNFORTUNATELY, many in our community have given up on our own institutions and organizations. My high school Spanish teacher told my class, "Every frog should praise his own pond!' Too often we give up without strategically using our own resources to compete.
