Wow! so happy to view this great interview with Mr. Sandridge who was my teacher in the 70's. Praying for his health and wellness. I loved the musical greatness of both bands, Sun and Dayton; your discipline and dedication showed. Proud to call the Land of Funk, 'Dayton" home! ❤🖤💚💛

Mr. Sandridge was one of my teachers at Belmont high school in 1976...he let me listen to a tape that Sun had just put together at that time. It was great. After school I became a truck mechanic and got to work on Ohio Players bus a few times and one time was sent to start a bus at a residence and it turned out to be Sun's bus. One of the guys in the band said Mr. Sandridge was not with them at that time. Both buses were drove by Mr. Turner (Mr. T), another great guy.....small world. Mr. Sandridge was very good to me, to be blunt, things were different in the 70's and he opened the eyes of a young east Dayton white boy to funk music. He let me see good music is good music...period. Great at art, great at music, great with kids. Sorry to hear you have been sick, hope you find yourself well. Thank you Mr. Sandridge.

I got to see Dayton when they came to Detroit, back in 1981-on the bill with Was Not Was-and Dayton KILLED IT! For a relatively unknown group then(and still now)them brothers(with the sister on lead vocals)threw down-I kid you not. The single at the time was a cut called "Cutie Pie" which got a pretty good amount of airplay at the time of it's release-there was another cold jam from that same album, called "One Day Or Another", which should've gotten airplay, but didn't(yes, I had the album, titled "Cutie Pie"). And they sounded just like the music on the album-something which, in my opinion, always told me that this was a serious group of musicians, to be able to faithfully, reproduce the sound that they had achieved on their records/albums-something a lot of your major acts were not able to-or didn't for whatever reason-do. Anyway, just thought I'd leave these comments about another KICK-ASS group from the small town of Dayton, Ohio; wow! P.S.: I understand that this video/interview was first posted about seven years ago-and I'm just now posting my comments about the "loss" of the Funk-and all creative music in this world, really, inspired by some of what I've seen tonight, in this video; oh well, better later than never...11-20-22.

I'm big on funk music. I'm probably the only person I know over here in Minnesota. I have 4 of Daytons LP albums on Vinyl. Underrated band.

HOW THE FUNK CAPITAL OF THE WORLD IS FIGHTING TO KEEP ITS LEGACY ALIVE IN DAYTON OHIO! Stephen StarrJUN 19 2019. When Dayton’s The Funk Music Hall of Fame & Exhibition Center - aka TheFunkCenter - opened in December 2017, locals delighted in it marrying a proud musical tradition with hope for the revival of a city long down on its luck. Built to celebrate the Ohio city’s reputation as ground zero of the funk world, the center drew volunteers and experts from the Netherlands, Japan and the U.K. and superstar names from Dayton’s 1970s and ’80s funk scene, who pieced together the decades-old instruments, records and memorabilia on display. Tickets to the opening ceremony sold out in days. www.ozy.com/fast-forward/how-the-capital-of-funk-is-fighting-to-keep-its-legacy-alive/94512 GoFundMe donation link for The Funk Music Hall of Fame & Exhibition Center.
