Love Dire Straits. They are a great British rock band from the 70's-90's. Mark Knopfler is one of the best guitarists around. They have had so many hits including "Sultans Of Swing", "Romeo & Juliet", "Private Investigations", "Twisting By The Pool", "Money For Nothing", "Walk Of Life", "Telegraph Road", "So Far Away", "Brothers In Arms" etc. They don't have a bad song.

This song is homage to Chet Adkins a guitar "picker" and Nashville producer. It was played by Knoffler on the PBS special aired in 1987 Chet Adkins and Friends. Chet Adkins is credited producing notable hits of the 50's and 60's from the Everly Brother to Willy Nelson and my favorite performer, Waylon Jennings. The PBS special highlights Adkins career and is worth the time in its historical content... Adkins and Knoffler on the stage together.

The original video follows the lyrics "Here comes Johnny singing oldies, goldies, BE BOP A LULA BABY, WHAT"D I SAY. Here comes Johnny singing I GOT A WOMAN, down in the tunnel trying to make it pay. He got the answer he got devotion, oh yeah the boy can play" The video shows a young man in a subway TUNNEL (lyric "down in the tunnel") in London, busking (which is a term for a person ( a "busker") playing an instrument in a public place, usually with a hat, or their guitar case open at their feet, so people passing by or watching can throw some money into their case or hat. WHERE in the LINE he sings "TRYING TO MAKE IT PAY" hoping to earn some money while he plays and sings the oldies "BE BOP A LULA" (which was sung by GENE VINCENT and HIS BLUE CAPS back in 1956), "WHAT I'D SAY" (which was sung by RAY CHARLES) and "I GOT A WOMAN" (also originally sung by RAY CHARLES in 1954, but covered by many other singers after that). The boy who is busking with his guitar in the original video. playing in the subway tunnel is WEARING the SAME shirt that Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits singer) is wearing in the version you watched above. SO during the rest of the original version, it shows various people passing by him, and reacting, etc. Here is the link for it, so you can watch it, but I wouldn't react to this one cos it seems like it may get blocked. But YOU can watch it, I just did. Link for the original video..kzbin.info/www/bejne/laK3eaGVqN2lhJI

They are still rocking today with a newer album from 2018 with songs like the valley and sorry.the newest album 2020 has songs like do unto others, blood from above. With some of the best vocals I have ever heard the harmonies great, guitar solos good, Keep in mind this band come back 35 years later to still rock out and doing it well. If you start with one of the 80s songs you will not be disappointed. Thank you for your attention.
